black lines stretching across the screen, jumpy performance,

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:32 am

Ok, so during the first hour or two of playing, no problems, But then, as the game wore on, now, when I zoom in in first person without a weapon equipped (I.E. to scout), I usually get this black/dark thin line stretching across my screen. It looks like a stretched polygon/texture stretching from left to right (tapered).

I've also gotten an odd stretched polygons issue elsewhere. Has anyone else been getting some odd graphics glitches?

I've had these kinds of problems before, (they got progressively worse >.<) and it was my graphics card in my PS3, that was a $175 problem. I'm really hoping this time it's just the game...

On top of that, lately, as I progress further and further into the game, I am getting a worse framerate, and I just froze for the first time last night (this morning). I have two followers, and I know having multiple followers in Fallout 3 could cause frame skipping, but I've had this weird lag since I first started the game (it's like a lag spike every so often) I suppose it's worth it to mention that most of these problems were all in the same sitting...

I hear if I uninstall/reinstall the game, these issues (or some of them) might go away? could that work? I wouldn't lose my saved games right? (I just have to ask to make 100% sure, I'm already 99%)

I had some extreme polygon issues with FO3 on my XBox360 - weird black lines and tan star-shaped things that took up 1/2 the sky (yet only if you were looking in one specific direction). Reloading, save and quit, etc. didn't help.

In New Vegas I have the eyebot follower and have seen a black line extend from his antenna, miles off into the sky, like he is being dragged by an orbital satellite.

I doubt its an issue with your PS3 since I've seen the effect on both systems. I think it is an inherent bug in the game. . .

at least i'm not really alone, but i'd feel better if there were more people experiencing this issue. I've only had this PS3 for a year now.

I just experienced the same thing earlier but it went away after I entered in a building.

OH THANK GOD! This is the EXACT same thing i'm talking about. it goes away when you enter a building, but it comes back when you exit! I only had a "stretch" happen ONCE in a building, (Not the same kind though, it was more like there was someone behind me, and I was just seeing part of them sticking out in front of me, but I don't think that was it) and that was in the NCR HQ at the south end of i-15, in the sleeping quarters.

Thank you guys, lets keep this thread going. I really hope they fix this. MAN I'm so relieved it's not my PS3 again!!! I hope bethesda fixes this! it's really annoying when you're exploring, I use that zoom a lot (as I rarely travel with a weapon pulled)
