BlackReach(Wow, just wow!)

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:09 am

Yeah, I was surprised when I went there today. After just doing the theives guild, and reading that guys book on Falmer I thought, "oh god, Blackreach is going to be a dark disgusting dwaven cavern that lives up to its name and full of Falmer Gloomlurkers." I was pleasantly surprised, with a healthy supply of soul gems mined from there as well.

But did anyone else encounter a lone giant down there? I was really confused. I just snuck past it.

Get him to fight the robot, it's pretty easy, one of them dies, and the other is less than half health.

"Wow" is right. "WoW" to be more precise. That's where I think I've seen giant mushrooms before, in a place called Zangarmarsh.

you must've never played morrowind... morrowind had mushroom trees everywhere, as well as the expansion for oblivion, shivering isles.

Oh, no I wasn't worried about fighting it. I generally let any peaceful creature live, It's just that I though it was a glitch, as it looked horribly out of place. Perhaps it was lost?

Let us just say Blackreach does not only have 1 entrance.

Yeah I did wonder if there was a big cave opening when I saw him. I am still looking for that cave opening.

So far, this has been one of my favorite parts of the game. I've been getting a sweet Morrowind vibe the entire time I've been playing, but when I got to Blackreach it all came together like a great game of Tetris. The only thing missing were giant fleas. Even my brother-in-law, who started with Oblivion and never touched Morrowind, found Blackreach to be amazing.

I still like Morrowind a little bit better, perhaps due to nostalgia, but Skyrim is a vast improvement over Oblivion.

I first though that wow, why isn't more of the game like this but after thinking, if it weren't this kind of unique, it wouldn't feel as grand, imo.

The art direction is outstanding in this game. I personally love Markarth and the surrounding region. But the whole of Skyrim just works! It really feels like a coherent world that could, just possibly, exist. Some of the dungeons are the best I've ever had the pleasure of exploring and many of them have a unique story that fits the world.

For myself, graphics are important and I'm always pleased when improvements are made; but it's clear that art direction is important and Skyrim is a great example.

Agreed. When I came across that place while questing, I was blown away. It's completely unexpected and definitely in a good way. It was almost like being back in Morrowind.

You'll find it eventually when you do the main quest. If you don't want to do that, though, then it's located below the ruins of Alftand.

lol. yeah... and nothing at all like the ones in various places in WoW... these are more like underwater plants above water and they're amazing.

yay to Bethesda for giving us glowing mushrooms that AREN'T just like anything we've seen anywhere else.

There's something like 8 buildings down there, the largest "area" I've explored besides the Labrynthian, which may be about the same size.

I agree... there should be some awards for this one... it's secsy and fun.

As I remember, Labrynthian was just an average nordic dungeon... Where did you go that it was as big as Blackreach?

Blackreach...*sigh*

So far I enjoyed every single dungeon in Skyrim. Almost every one of them has something speical to it,
like a unique quest or impressive visual design or creepy atmosphere...

And the Dwemer dungeons are my favorites. In Morrowind they were kind of boring
and not very believable. I never had the feeling that places like Red Mountain were
places were Dwemer actually lived and studied...

Not so in Skyrim. Here the Dwemer ruins really feel like they had once been the HOMES
to the Dwemer, not only there workplaces.

And Blackreach? It is the pinnacle of it all...I was speechless when I wandered through this giant cave.
I spent hours there, exploring as much as I could. I left that harmless giant be...but had an epic battle
with a wisp-mother...and the Falmer always give me the creeps...

With this dungeon Bethesda has redeemed themselves for every boring generic dungeon they
haunted me with in Oblivion...Blackreach ist just so beautiful, beautiful and dangerous...

I literally just spent almost 2 hours gathering 20k in loot and have no idea how to sell it, and then holly $#!t I find out that I am not just here with the Trolls and Robots, there is a freakin town with humans who want to kill me. This underground thing is so huge.

I wonder if the mines and chests will fill back up over a period of time? Other mines have filled back up, but not after 2 days, it was a lot longer.

There is a town down there?! Or do you mean the place where the Falmer have their slaves? Speaking of which, why are there humans serving Falmer? It just seems so wrong. I don't even want to imagine what they do for their masters.

When I approached that area with the giant glowing orb, I was reminded of that animated film Atlantis with the glowing blue orb.
The entire place is just awe inspiring and shocking, and the stories that Blackreach must have seen and the history hidden within its deep pools and the nooks and crannies. I am going to clean up Sinderion's house down there and make it a place for me to live.

I thought it was amazing besides the fact that it was hard to see in alot of areas because it was so dark. I mean it is underground, but I wish I could see the buildings all lit up :(. Forgot to mention, my jaw literally dropped when I first saw this and I uttered "Waaahhh?!?".
