I can't wait until the Bethesda Defense League gets here and says you're playing the game wrong. :teehee:

While true, there are already so many topics about this, why can you not just go fan the fire in one that already exists?

If you feel blacksmithing ruins your experience then don't use it. This isn't a freaking MMO where everything needs constant balancing aka wow

Did you somehow grind out Smithing to max level before actually doing anything else? I've only been crafting enough to make my own gear for me and my companion and I have good quality stuff (better than most things I'm finding) but don't feel overpowered.

Mages =/= burning everything alive. Other schools of magic are necessary, its just harder to use them than other classes. Doesn't make them underpowered.

Grinding a skill and making 1000's of iron daggers. I don't even see the fun in this, and why someone would do it in the first place. Blacksmith when you need to, and when you stumble upon the resources. But sitting there for an hour, making a bunch of iron daggers, putting a little frost enchantment on it, selling it, and grinding your skill that way....I just have no clue why someone would do this on a single-player game.

Lol, it's kind of funny to hear people defend obvious flaws in the game, that I guarantee the developers would change.

I mean, I want the possibility to be a very strong character, but 1 hitting dragons at level 41 (not me) is a little broken :)

You have no idea what you are talking about. It takes high level smith, alchemy, enchanting and high weapon skills. Then you have to make the enchants, improve your weapon, and chug dozens of potions in the process. SOOO while people don't really defend against obvious flaws, you will be called out when you post ignorantly.

Some people get enjoyment out of gaming the system to get as powerful as possible as quickly as possible. That's fine really, it's their game, but the funny part is when they then post on forums about how easy the game is.

Oh come on. Yes, Destruction svcks. Frankly, for me this is not a change to past Elder scrolls games - yes, magic was powerful in them, but you had to invest significant time for this. For "normal gamers" it svcked past level 10.

But blacksmithing in itself op? Come on. I just made a daedric armor (equipped with +100 smithing gear and a potion) and do still have to drink potions on some bosses on master difficulty. What's really powerful is the alchemy/enchanting-loop. But seriously, you could do similar things in Morrowind. You know what really svcks? Pickpocketing.

Yes smithing is overpowered and destruction is underpowered.

Smithing skill increases need to be dependent upon the value and difficulty of the item you're creating. The iron dagger exploit seems like a bug.

They just need to put a requirement on usability, so that you can still create stupid overpowered gear if you want, but won't be able to actually use it.

All this "balance smithing, alchemy, enchanting" stuff makes me think I'm back playing a MMO and not a single player game...

Try using the console or CK when it is released.... you'll see super broken than....

Really, destruction is underpowered? I really don't see it because Destruction magic is like my main weapon to use to kill dragons until they land. Not to mention I can one-shot basically any low level creature.

You may be right on destruction but I havent ever seen Beth put out a balance patch

Fix bugs yes, fix exploits most certainly but I cant remember a single patch that nerfed or improved a skill, perk or something

Nothing in Fallout 3

Nothing in Oblivion

I doubt anything will change, and I really hope they dont start nerfing skills cause of posts like this

Yell about destruction stop trying to hurt smithing

That's because you are likely under level 45.

What do you meen by +100 smithing gear?

I enchanted four pieces of armor with + 25 smithing enchants (100 enchanting), then I put this gear on for smithing. That's about what you can get when you don't screw the game with alchemy - something above 700 armor, it's actually fine on master difficulty. Still a cakewalk compared to how you struggle in the mid 20s, but hey, you think you would be a little bit more powerful after 60 hours of playing.

So how do you think just normal blacksmithing is balance wise? Without enchanting or alchemy?

It's fine in my opinion. If you just use blacksmithing, you can improve your gear a bit. If you use enchanting, too, you can craft items that improve blacksmithing, put them on and make some powerful items, but you will still have fun on master difficulty. If you use alchemy and loop the hell out of the game for some hours, you can walk straight to Mehrunes Dagon on his plane of existence and punch him in the face.

Thank you! I was worried because I was hearing a lot about blacksmithing by itself screws up the balance of the game even on master. Had me worried.

If you go full destruction mage, it is playable level 20s-40s with duel casting fireballs for most quests but warriors still are easily stronger.

Blacksmithing is a tad crazy. I leveled very quickly making a bunch of silver and gold rings. I improved a lot of armor and weapons to the point where is makes daedric at basic look like booty. But...

Certain enemies can counter that...

So.

Yeah.

Are we forgetting about Enchanting guys?
