Sounds like a texture glitch. I have both shields and they are rendered properly for me. Try clearing the game cache, the system cache and re-installing the game to the HDD. Those 3 steps normally clear up that sort of thing.

Seems like it would be an advantage to me. Enemy will think, 'Hey, he's just got a 1H weapon, shouldn't be too hard.' Then, after you block with invisible shield, 'OMG WTF INVISIBLE SHIELD HAX!!'

*Bandit swings sword and hits invisible shield*

Bandit: "My sword... what the hell?"

OP: *chuckles heartily as he guts the still surprised Bandit* "Did I forget to mention something?"
