Bleak Falls Barrow AFTER 1.3

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 2:06 am

So, I was so excited when 1.3 was released and went on ahead to continue playing the game. I decided I would create a new character and I did, but then a problem arose when I walked into Bleak Falls Barrow. I got to the puzzle door and each ring was already turned to be on the owl, the rings would not move, and when I tried to activate the claw key, the animation played but the door stayed. Anyone else have the same problem?

I did Bleak Falls Barrow very early on with my character and didn't have a problem, but I ran into this problem on other doors similar to the bleak falls one with the claws and the 3 rings. I think there are quite a few claw door puzzles through out the game, as I probably have 6 or 7 of those claws at this point. I don't think the glitch is specific to bleak falls barrow, but can just happen on the 3 ring doors randomly. the one I had it on I ended up finally getting it by leaving the cave and re-entering a couple times and then if finally started to work. on another one, I think I actually was trying to go through a door too early in a quest. it was the Galdur amulet one, and I went to the final cave just randomly when I walked by it and it would not let me in, but once I finished the other parts of that quest and I got back to that cave it let me in...

All that said, those puzzle doors do seem to be glitchy from time to time. possible fixes are leave and come back, or try loading a previous save and going in again. I've made that my standard procedure when buying houses is to save right before buying the house and upgrades, and then testing all storage, weapons racks, and mannequins before going to far. if anything is glitchy, I reload the save prior to buying the house and upgrades and do it all again until everything works... once I know they work I don't seem to have any problems moving forward...

That happened to me before 1.3 came out. What I did to fix it was run all the way back to the entrance, left the cave, then ran all the way back. Since it reloaded the area it worked again, but I can't promise it will work for you.

Yep, problem confirmed on the PC as well, pre-1.3. I was able to solve it by exiting the game and starting again, one save further back.

I'll have to try that. Thanks for the tips.

Just to say - I did Bleak Falls last night on the XBox 360 and it worked for me fine (after patching to 1.3).

I had it on another puzzle door. I had correct claw, input correct code, but it wouldn't open. Door was very close to entrance, so I left cave and re-entered, but still wouldn't open. Reloaded manual save I made before entering cave and it still wouldn't open even after a full reboot of 360. I finally got it to open by activating rings in quick succession so they were all spinning at the same.

I start a lot of new characters. I mean a LOT. And Bleak Falls, being the first major dungeon, is a great place to try out new builds, etc. I've probably ran it 50 times, and this bug only happened to me once (like I said pre-1.3). So you might never see it.

They're right. Exit the area, or reload, and it should work. I had that problem with the book for the Bard's college. The book wasn't there. I had to revert to a previous save, before I jumped into the well, leave the dungeon, then come back. The book was there. I've run into crap like that on occasion. I had the whole map disappear out from under the blacksmith in Whiterun the other day, and you could run around below the map. I reloaded, and it was back to normal.
