Blocking perk tree with two handed warrior

Post » Tue Sep 18, 2012 8:54 pm

Im currently playing as a two handed Orc (no magic other than resto and respite) and would like to know if blocking and the perks on the tree will help at all. Since I am only using two handed weapons and no shield, I am not sure if blocking and any of its associated perks will work when I try to block with my greatsword/warhammer.

Maybe I should just forgo blocking altogether or maybe just try to load up on shield wall perk? That is, if the shield wall applies to blocking with two handed weapons. Not sure.

You can invest into the first perk (Shield Wall) and the center perk (Quick Reflexes) and be useful. Also Block Runner can be used with two-handed, but you need to waste a perk on Deflect Arrows to get it. The entire right side of the tree is for shields and they're related attacks and counter attacks with said shield (shield bashing).

Yup. The Block skill works with your 2-handed weapons.

Cool. I'll try it out to see how it goes. This is my first melee character and I am having a blast.

I'm probably the exception but I almost never blocked when I played 2-Handed warriors. I experimented with Block early on with my first 2-Hander and then abandoned it. I didn't block at all when I played my second 2-Hand warrior. It's a matter of play-style. My approach is the "offense is the best defense" approach: I prefered to use my combat time dealing damage rather than shielding from damage.

I have always found block to be very handy for my two-handed warriors. Notably the shield bash, which works great for staggering an opponent and setting them up for a power attack. Plus the slow motion effect of Quick Reflexes is a blessing to any melee character.
