So before I was level 30 I sacrificed a follower at the pillar. I'm trying it again now that I am high enough level to start the quest but nothing happens.

I told them to activate the pillar, they become wrapped around it, and then I kill them with the Blade of Sacrifice. Nothing, no Boethiah.

Is there a way around this? Can it be patched? Or do I have to start over after putting 38 hours in?
