Books - necessary?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 5:44 pm

Is there any use for books other than "reading" them once and level up at something?

some books may lead you to a quest by giving you clues. otherwise, they're just there for lore, so you can understand the world more.

Some could potentially be needed in quests, but that is a pretty rare occurence. They can be sold for good cash sometimes. And personally i like to keep some just since it feels good, gonna stack them up somewhere in my house later on.

Yeah some books give you miscellaneous objectives and others give you quests... "legend of [blank]" keep an eye out for books with that title. I've found 2 books with legend in the title and both gave me more stuff to do.

I collect books, always have in the TES games... can't really explain why either. But since there's now limited room in the bookshelves (which are AWESOME btw), I might just reserve my collection to the rare/valuable/odd books.

There's also skill books, which improve skills by two points. Most suggest saving these until later in your character development when skill points are harder to come by.

Go to whiterun and check the jarl's study room in the Jarl quarters. There's a book on the bookshelf called legend of something.. Or something of legends. It'll start a quest which will bring you to a new shout.

If you find all of the books in the game you get an assault rifle.

Best book I found so far, besides the skill books, is the one about the Oblivion Crisis that talked about the Hero of Kvatch and Martin. Read the books...this is a game to be savored and enjoyed and it's a chapter in a long journey.

They're good for learning about lore. The ones about the Dwemer you can buy from the archaeologist-wizard-elf-guy in Markarth are really interesting.

I would read the books as I find them, but there's soooooo many of them. I just store them in my house for future reading.

I found but have yet to read Oblivion Gates. I've been lugging it around with me for many hours of play.

Lots of great details about the world, which helps to really get into it.
One particular book has been helpful to me so much that I take it with as a reference. Got that one from the Thieves Guild.

There are also books which give you tips on defeating hard enemies.

"Wispmothers fact or fiction" (something like that^^) for example
