Books in the Skyrim -> Sync'd with my Kindle

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 5:09 pm

Here is an idea Skyrim devs. When I open a book in the game... send the book to my kindle:) Just a little extra interactivity.

That's brilliant, I'd love to have that. Probably wouldn't be too hard to do as a "mod" of sorts.

Kindle is a relatively new device that is intended to destroy the old fashioned technology of books. Hence the name kindle, after kindling.

any e-book reader that has wireless capability will do, or an iPad or Playbook. Just has to be no-muss no fuss (so I dont have to go over to my computer and sync the book)

I use "kindle" as the term for ebook readers the same as I use the term "Band-Aid" for any adhesive bandage

I'd definitely like this. I remember seeing somewhere that someone made a leatherbound book containing all of the lore/books from Oblivion in one huge tome. Obviously that was a one-of-a-kind type of thing, but I wouldn't mind having a collection of the books either A) in print, in a leatherbound volume, or B) in digital format to read on my Kindle. Maybe, as others have said, we can have a mod/app that could extract the data and place it in MOBI format.

Kindle is a brand-name of E-Reader. There are a number of E-readers out there. The point of an e-reader is to allow people to have access to books in a digital format while on the road. Reduced physical size, fast download and update, plus fewer publication costs, so e-books tend to be cheaper.

Skyrim books sent to an e-reader would be a great idea.

I like the idea as well. If not an ereader how about a text to our phones? "There's an ap for that!"

Books will never, ever die or be 'destroyed'~

Apart from that, it sounds like a neat idea ^_^

That's a superb idea!

I don't have a kindle yet, I love physical books but I can't ever bring myself to get rid of any because I like to re-read them and I've run out of space to keep any more, so I'm going to have to start doing the whole e-book thing and limit the physical books I keep to the ones that won't be done justice by an e-reader - ones with nice glossy pictures or nicely bound etc., but novels in e-book form for me from now on.

It's probably too late to ever implement or patch this. They could however release e-book versions of the works from the game.

So most everyone here thinks this is a positive thing. Any idea how I get the Bethesda dev team to consider this?

A friend of mine and I were talking about this and we think the main challenge would be getting it to sync each time you opened the book as you would have to give it your Amazon info. What if they had a book with every book from the game in it that you could download to your Kindle and then in game they gave you the location number. That seems easier to accomplish.

Yes that is easier to accomplish, but not what I want. I actually think this might be better on iPad or Playbook or some other tablet, where an Elder Scrolls app can be created to open the correct book when you open the book in the game.

Of course, the game needs to be patched in order to send the right signals to the tablet-app.
