Does joining the Dark Brotherhood kick you out? That's the only thing I can think of I did that would cause me to be kicked out. I did pay Vex the 1000 gold she wanted to get back in, though.

You could have killed someone that was protected. Or you could have robbed a protected house.

Last time I saw this question, the guy attacked Maven and wondered why that made the guild mad.

You can be in both guilds at the same time.

Did you perhaps kill a thief NPC that you occasionally see wandering around Riften or running from guards?

I might have, I sometimes go on guard killing sprees just for fun (nothing better than shouting a big pack of guards to their deaths:). I might have accidentally killed a civilian somewhere connected to the Thieves' Guild.

No, I just recently joined the Dark Brotherhood and haven't been kicked out. Nor did I have to pay a 1000 gold fine. One wierd thing did happen and...

I had to pay 500 gold to the Dark Brotherhood after a couple quests. I was accussed of attacking one of my own. I was, you're kidding, I didn't touch anyone, wtf are you talking about? Didn't feel like reloading a save and I had a lot of cash so I just paid the 500 gold.

I still haven't figured out what the heck triggered it. I imagine something similar happened to you, but with the Thieves guild as well.


RE: DenverRalphy's post. I actually have killed about 10 of those spawned random Thieve npcs that run around Riften and never once have had to pay a fee. If anything it must have had to do with one of the named Thieves guild members.

So let me get this straight.

You engage in indiscriminate mass murder. Yet that's not your first thought as to why a group got mad at you.

Nope. If I had killed someone in the guildhouse I would guess that was it. I didn't know anything about people "protected" by the guild. It would be helpful if they would code something into the game that tells people why they were removed.

I guess, I haven't seen them anywhere but Riften, but my character "lives" in Riften and barely spends any time anywhere else. So if you're getting them to show up somewhere else, they could possibly spawn in any city.
