Boring NPC'S

Post » Thu Aug 30, 2012 3:30 am

I created this topic because I wanted to ask one question.

Dont get mad peeps.

Just to let you know I loved Oblivion and have played a lot of Skyrim, completing the main quest and a few dozen others. I love wandering around imagining whats around this corner, whos gona jump out here and its great fun. But the biggest spoiler/ destroyer of immersion is when you speak to the npc's. Its not so much their voices (they really need a greater variety) but its how they are animated. They are all the same. Regardless if they are mad, or happy, or angry. They more or less just stand there maybe moving their arms now and again with the same placid expressions.

Anyone else get bored of looking at them and close your eyes using your imagination to picture them conversing with you?

Cheers.

I find them to be just fine. I've played many other RPGs where NPCs move even less.

Well they're certainly better than the potato people from Oblivion which was one of the biggest immersion-breaking issues for me. I think Skyrim improves a lot, although there is still quite a long way to go to make them fully convincing. Again though, better than Oblivion and Fallout 3's conversations.

In Dawnguard they did add some variations to certain characters so that they start pacing when making speeches (as anyone would), although that was just for a handful of characters.

They added knew animations in dawnguard, Not to everyone but you can tell they're trying to make it better for future dlcs/games.

Skyrim's NPC's are more or less par for the course. Few games have really interesting NPC's.

Sorry mate, we italians have the exclusive right to gesticulate while we talk to someone, NPC didn't pay us the royalties, so they are forced to stand still.
