bosmer lore help

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 7:52 pm

hey up until now ive been playing only human type characters( nords and redguards). when i first started playing fantasy games i always picked elfs and one of my favorite fiction characters is legolas. ive been getting bored with skyrim because i keep doing the same thing with every playthrough. i want to make a new character now who i will be able to play through dawnguard with. i want a bosmer scout/ranger type character and i was wondering who are some famous bosmer's i could get info on for inspiration. and also who would be the "legolas" of the bosmer if there is one. any quests i should definatly do and rp ideas would be great as well. thanks guys

While I do not know of any Bosmeri legends, I know that there is a sort of underground movement against the Thalmor in Valenwood. I'll speak to my friend about this. He's looked up a lot of things about the Wood Elves

Well, the first thing you should know is that they're cannibals. And there's a great website you should try. The UESP, it helped me learn a lotof things. And it has walkthroughs for every quest.

King Esplear, if I remember correctly.. was one of the first rulers of Valenwood.

They're not full on cannibal, they'll eat animal's meat.

Yeah but still, it's in their tradition to eat their dead instead of bury of burn them. I just thought he should know that, he did want lore info. It also hints that one quest he should do is

forgot how to make spoiler tags, so

*SPOILER*

From the PGE, 1st edition :

"No less abhorrent are the Bosmer than their kin at Summerset, but they are far more cooperative. The Wood Elves love the current human activity because it makes them feel important.
"They are exclusively and religiously carnivorous. They cannot, or will not, eat anything that is plant-based. They eat game, beastfolk, each other, or meats imported from other regions. This part of the Green Pact is known as the Meat Mandate, and, among its other rules, it requires that a fallen enemy must be eaten completely before three days pass. The family members of the warrior that slew the enemy may help him with his meal. Needless to say, the Wood Elves do not like to engage in large battles if they have not undergone a suitable starvation period.
"Though they are excellent archers, the Green Pact forces their bowyers and fletchers to use bone or similar materials, or to buy bows and arrows from other cultures. The use of woodcrafts created by another race is not forbidden, nor is the sale of their own Valenwood timber as long as it is collected by a non-Bosmeri.
"The Wood Elves, of course, cannot smoke anything of a vegetable nature. Bone pipes are common, however, and are filled with caterpillars or tree grubs.
"For a brief time the Colovian armies used Wood Elf archers, as in the War of Rihad two years past. The Bosmer proved to be too undisciplined and prone to desertion for further use. They would sometimes walk into the shade of a single tree and vanish. Their forest-coupling skills are remarkable. The title of their most famous poem, the Meh Ayleidion, means "The One Thousand Benefits of Hiding."
"At the trading posts of the Empire, the Wood Elves become very happy. Some creations of carpentry delight them to no end. Most of it has never occurred to them. They bring their own trade items: hides, river pearls, finger-bone charms made from the still-magically-charged hands of their dead wizards. They often buy woodcrafts that they have no use for or whose use they never bother to find out. Some of the bravest Wood Elven warriors use wagon wheels as shields, or as (they think) impressive headgear.
"While sometimes amusing, the Bosmer have a bestial side. They can resort to animal shapes if they need to, or water. Their most dreaded transformation is the Wild Hunt, which killed King Borgashttp://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-first-edition-aldmeri-dominion#6 for the "iniquities" of his Alessian faith. The Wild Hunt is a pack of shifting forest-demons and animal-gods, thousands strong, which sweeps through the countryside killing everything its path. The Wood Elves do not like to talk about the Hunt, and I gather they do not feel proud of this power at all-Gomini, my Bosmer companion of late, tells me that the Hunt is used for justice, but that also, "every monster in the world that has ever been comes from a previous Hunt. Those Bosmer that go Wild, they do not return.""

Well, to start off, as somebody else mentioned, the Bosmer are cannibals. After a fight, they'll eat their kill. Guess it's part of them being hunters, why waste a kill?
The next thing would be the Green Pact, a deal supposedly made with the forest deity Y'ffre. The Green Pact basically states, that in Valenwood, the Bosmer cannot harm, eat, or use any plant material as building material, making them strict carnivores. Although, I do believe that they are allowed to import materials for building.
The final thing I know, and possibley the most interesting, is the Wild Hunt. The Wild Hunt is the Bosmer's last ditch effort and ace up their sleeve in a war or battle when they are in threat of loosing. The Wild Hunt turns the Bosmer into "a horde of feral, supernatural beasts" that are constantly changing shape and form, that rush at the enemy and attack relentlessly, until they are all dead, slaying and consuming them. However, there is a reason why it is a last ditch maneuver: there is no turning back from the Wild Hunt, after the enemy is destroyed and devoured, they turn upon and eat eachother.

Niamh's a bosmer, but she's a bit "different", and has a rather convoluted history.
She's also a vegetarian - which is the exact opposite of all of her kin...

Even by Wood Elf standards, she's not normal.

Fargoth is one of the most renown, valiant warriors of Valenwood and is considered to be a God amongst his people.

You should look him up.

The Thalmor burn down a lot of villages in Valenwood and kill a lot of Bosmer. You could put this into your rp.

Well, theres always my main Character Twywll ;)
He was a prized Archery champion in Valenwood. Though young, he was more skilled than most Elves 3 times his age.
He was offered a place in an Archery competition in Falkreath.
Because of his lack of experience in cold climates, his aim was off, and his arrow went straight into (the knee) a younger Nord competitor.
Twywll fled the guards, but was immedietly caught by an Imperial Ambush.
After his lucky escape from Helgen, Twywll vowed never to use a bow again, until the day he recovered from his anguish.
After meditation in the College of WInterhold, Twywll encountered a group of Thugs, whom left him no choice but to use his bow once more. After he ripped his last arrow from the skull of the dead Nord, he knew, it was time.

well they are famous for being cannibalistic, and superb archers.

I can't really think of any that stick out, oh besides the cameron dynasty, but bethesda thought a taller villian was better so they sort of gave ol' mankar about four feet of height.

edit for spelling
