Bosmer Love! <3

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 4:54 pm

Alright, I'm tired of all the Bosmer hate! It's time for some good ol' Wood Elf love!

I really hate the idea (that is somewhat perpetuated by the game) that all Bosmers are weak and annoying. Some of my most powerful characters have been Wood Elves. The combo of high sneak, marksman and poison is just deadly. Plus there is something really satisfying in watching a Bosmer that is half the size of a Dremora Lord take down the latter with ease. I also think they are adorable...yes something can be adorable and deadly at the same time. I like both the males and females, though I do wish that the females were their proper height. I also love their culture, their kind welcome of anyone coming in peace to their lands. I love the idea of Valenwood, I really hope we see it one day. The descriptions of it in game books really set my imagination afire more than any other province. I even started a fanfic with a Wood Elf as one of the two main characters just to show their awesomeness (while keeping their unique brand of charm intact).

So are there any other Bosmer lovers on this forum? What do you like about them?

I love their height. I am 5'1 in real life and not growing any taller, and I never felt bad about it. I like being short, it is better than being really tall, especially if you are a girl. Bosmer are little also. The main reason why I don't play Altmer is because I get tired of looking down at everyone passing by. It doesn't amuse me, really.

:thumbsup:

I play almost solely on Bosmer characters. I love them, and they really suit the style of character I feel most at home playing - sneaky archer-type, proficient also at Blade, Alchemy, Illusion and Destruction. The shortness is also something that makes me feel completely at ease with the character. I'm 5'2'', and unfortunately never going to be taller than that, so it helps me relate. Playing an Altmer just doesn't work for me, I'm not used to having to look down to see people. :P

Yay! A wood elf http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/ScreenShot493.jpg

I have used the command console to adjust Buffy's height from her default 1.0 to 0.9 - the same height as her Bosmeri brethren. Here you can really see the difference, as she stands next to a 1.0 height Imperial woman: http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/Cho%20Bk%201/ScreenShot637.jpg

I have learned that she does indeed have sort of a mystical connection with nature and animals. Being small means you are harder to hit and can hide easier. She doesn't mind having to hop up onto rocks to see above the tall grass; wearing loads of detect life gear helps a lot there when she skulks through the forest by herself. Often though, her height is not a concern while traveling because she sees the world from atop her precious black mare.

Little wood elves dancing through a meadow under the light of two moons, following the sounds of moving water and leaving a trail of clothes behind them. :twirl:

Buffy is actually quite self conscious about those ears. Dunmer and Altmer have such beautiful and delicately curved ears. Humans have those cute little round things. Buffy thinks her ears look quite a bit like those of her precious mare - big ol' horse ears! That's why she generally tries to arrange her hair to deemphasize them. Oh well, never happy with what Mara gave her.

My first character in Morrowind was a bosmer. I really love ranger themed player characters. Then realized that considering the levenling system you must take exactly the contrary build you want to play... :ooo: Not played a bosmer again.

Such a nice pic of Buffy! The gown really suits her :tops:

I have nothing against Bosmers, I like them. Well, with the obvious exception. I don′t think I have to name drop, huh?

OMG! Yes. I wrote the exact same thing for Caileth. It's just so natural and true.

I like Bosmer's a lot. In fact, some of the hottest NPCs in the game are Bosmers. I've played a couple female Bosmer characters. My only real regret about them is that they can't carry very much without magic or bags of holding.

So, if we were to anologize where in the real world Bosmers were common, would it be northern California?

Imperials = Chicago?
Argonians = remote swampy regions of southeast Asia?
Redguards = obviously, north Africa and perhaps also some of East Africa
Nords = Norway
Bretons = rather than say "France" I'm gonna go with Brettony! :celebration:
Khajiti = savanah grasslands of Africa??
Dunmer = Australia
Altmer = England

A Bosmer with a Bow... The deadliest sight you will never see... Such remarkable hiding capabilities combine with precision marksmanship... Perfect!

Some of my favourite (but short lived) characters have been female Bosmeri archers. There's just something so satisfying about it. Sideways Cave was my first time in a proper dungeon with an archer, and everything fell with ease due to sneak attacks. I approve.

Assuming you are on PC, have enabled the command console and know how to open it, there is a command to change the scale of your charcter.

Here are the details: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Console_Command_Tutorial#Player.SetScale_.23

Think of '1.0' as standard normal height (like an Imperial). 1.1 = 110% of that and 0.9 = 90% of that. Again, all that is in the link. :)

Honey, I shrunk the elf!!! :rofl:

I've done that with one of my elves, and have a warning - if you go past about 0.85, your character will be unable to swim. I forget the actual limit, but 0.8 is definitely in drown-all-the-time range. I was aiming for "as small as possible" with her, but it was a long time back and I forget the scale factor I used.

The reason is that any animation is played at a height based on them standing up. The engine calculates a point a standard distance down in the water as the base of the animation, and then scales the height of the animation above that. So shorter characters swim lower than tall ones, instead of them all floating at the surface.

HeeHee! I like looking up at Altmers when I play a Bosmer. And it's even better when some snobby Altmer sighs, "Ah, how quaint..." at the same time (which I swear they seem to say to my Bosmers more than any other race that I play).

An Altmer said that as Celria, my DB assassin walked past. Big mistake. He never saw the arrow coming.

I would recommend making a mod that scale all woodelf females to 0.9, found that setscale works strange, some views like dialogue does not scale.
This way you could bypass the 0.8 height issue and swimming by giving them water breathing as an ability.

Yes most of my characters has also been bosmer ladies,
