I Bought Skyrim but Still Don't Want to Play it

Post » Thu Oct 04, 2012 11:07 am

I told myself when Skyrim was announced that I would buy it day one. I was really excited for it through December 2010 when it was announced, all the way up to early October 2011. Then some of the gameplay started coming out, and it looks more and more disappointing. I ended up buying it in December 2011 for 33% off. It's been 10 months and I still haven't played it. I really just feel no urge to play it.

Now a good amount of mods are out that fixes some of Skyrims many flaws, and I sort of want to play it a little more than I did, but still no real urge to play it. Some DLC has come out which looks kind of bad, so I'm thinking of just waiting another 6 months for all the DLC to come out, get a 75% discount on Steam (because there's no way I'm paying $20 per DLC, which seems mediocre at best), and for more mods to come out to fix Skyrim. What do you guys think I should do? Play Skyrim now, or wait a while?

Despite all its flaws, Skyrim is a good game. I think you should try it - you'll see if you really want to buy GOTY, or you're not interested in the game at all.

For me (and my rig isn't the best) Skyrim is pretty stable and runs very well now with all the optimizations Bethesda did, and it is fun but can get dull quick. I guess that depends on the playstyle.

Of course though, it is up to you.

Considering its a huge improvement over Oblivion, you're really missing out. Your money I guess. Also it's hard for it to get dull. Almost got to try to make it dull.

Hell of a way to waste money too. Have you never heard of playing and forming your own opinion, OP? Apparently not.

Skyim is not consistent in it's "flaws." I have never encounted many of the glitches people compain about. It is beyond weird that you would own the game for almost a year, and post 257 comments on a forum about the game, without ever playing it.

I wouldn't force yourself to play it, if you don't like it then you don't like it. Try something different.

Give it a blast though, there's a lot to enjoy.

I'd wait a while longer to play all the dlc, otherwise your long wait has no good reason. Nobody can tell you what to do, really. If you were able to hold off for so long, you should keep waiting until the spark is lit. I sometimes get terribly bored while playing, take a long break (my longest was a few months from April to last month) and not come back until I die to play some TES. It's healthy not to force yourself into a certain game at a certain moment, the game would be way more enjoyable when you found the motivation.

Make your own critique of it and try it. Relying on videos which, even though can be helpful, isn't a sure-fire way of knowing if you'll like it or not. Try it then come back to us and state your views.

hah yeah that's pretty weird. Your views in posts are pretty much invalid as you've never played the game...

Start a game, even if it's without the intention of putting an hour into it. Look at the character builds, skim thru the perk trees after getting your binds cut from your hands. Then get out of the Introduction fort/hold. Once you are able to go your own way, then you may consider actually playing the game on a more regular basis. By the time i did 3 hours of gameplay, already had 4 toons made.

I would get dawnguard before playing because SkyRe requires it and SkyRe fixes the game so well that Beth should fire their gameplay team and hire Tendo.

Dawnguard is now on steam sale for 30% off. I'm getting back at the 75% sale.

Why on earth should we care if you play the game or not?
