BowDaggers as primary weapons

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 6:17 pm

I'm not into the whole magic thing, so I plan to just the only my daggers and bow.

My question: Is it ideal to just use these weapons and ignore magic completely? Or I am just gimping myself too much?

While we're on the subject and since you are all TES vets, which skills should I look on leveling if I plan to play the rogue type?

Bow, daggers, light armor, sneak...what else? Thanks in advance :D

you wont gimp yourself at all. there is nothing about this game that makes you use magic or for that matter nothign about that says you have to use anything but magic. your call.

And an unrelated question about armor: What are the advantages to choose light armor over heavy and vice versa? I know it's an obvious answer but I found out that once you max one of them you make no sound and you move just as fast as if you weren't wearing it. So why would I go light as opposed to heavy?

Thank you in advance.

check out a perk list, lots of em over in the spoiler forum. comopare the light armor perks to the heavy armor perks, see which ones you want.

IMO, for sneaking, light is definitely the way to go

as for "is it ok if i fight with bow and daggers"

sure it's ok, you can play however you like dude. there is no wrong way to play. i don't see any issue with you using bows for long range and daggers for short range. you'll probably kick some ass!

Daggers are great for enchants and poisons too... becasue of their faster attack speed they apply the enchanted damage or poisons more often :D

An archer and bow guy will want to use stealth. Stealth needs light armor (or no armor) and the sneak skill as well to be as good as possible. Ignoring magic just because it's magic is a bad idea though, but it's possible. A pure archer and stealth guy will quickly gain powerful perks for archery and stealth attacks, meaning you'll on hit kill quite a huge chunk of enemies.

At least for now, shooting 6 stealth attacks on a single enemy is possible, as the AI hasn't detected you yet.

This is exactly how I plan on playing ... with some illusion and healing for survivability.

Add some speed and light armor and youll be fine

You play the game however you want. No playstyle is right.

And yes, you can use only daggers.

I may be going along similar lines, but I probably won't cut out magic completely. I like the idea of mixing in some illusion and alteration for spells like stoneflesh to make me more beefy when you have to fight a bunch of enemies at once or muffle for an even more guaranteed chance of sneak attack/stealing.

I will also probably throw alchemy into the mix for some poisons

That's how I'll be doing it,but with magic looking as it does,I just know I'm going to use it in battle,at least a little.

Magic is completely optional, in fact I think that's the sole reason for shouts, so you can ignore it completely and still fight Dragons that fly out of axing range.

So is illusion and alteration the choice magics for a rogue character?

I generally don't use bows much in games like this simply b/c they don't usually turn out to be all that useful. Most of the time you can get one or two shots off before you're forced to abandon the bow. I may just level my bow skill up in Skryim though just b/c I saw a screenshot of a character using a pretty wicked looking bow; like it was made out of lightning almost. :)

Personally, I think dual wielding daggers (or swords) is the perfect complement to an Archery build. Archery is supposed to do a pile of damage, so you should be able to quickly finish off anything that gets too close. Would strike me as odd for an Archer to go sword-and-board when someone got too close. I like the dual-wield much better (thinking Legolas from LOTR).

As someone who has only ever played Altmer mages, I agree, but they had to give those axe toting brutes a way to down dragons. Though I still think the old way of climbing a tall tree and waiting to jump the dragon was funnier to watch. :prod:
