Brand awareness...

Is the only reason why this is even an Elder Scrolls game, I mean if you changed the name of the game, the locations, and maybe some of the lore you would basically have typical fantasy mmo. From the screenshots I am really disappointed, if you had just shown me those and didn't tell me what game they were from there would be no way I would have thought it was an Elder scrolls game.

My theory is that Zenimax wanted to get on this MMO trend and try to make profit and kill WoW (that will happen) but they were worried they would not get recognized. What do you do in a situation like that? Slap a very successful series on the title and get on the front of Gameinformer.

There are at least 15 active threads saying exactly the same thing.

Make more until it slips through everyone's thick skulls.

I agree with the OP. They are banking on The Elder Scrolls as a brand to be the selling point for this game. The problem is, fans of TES are by and large going to be turned off by the changes, diminishing their core buying audience, and non-TES fans who enjoy WoW and GW2-like MMOs have too many other choices to pull them to ESO for any extended period of time.

Yeah I'm really confused as to what gaming demographic they're trying to appeal to with this. WoW's been out and improved upon for far too long to top by copying it, so I'm not really expecting a lot of WoW people to jump ship to go to a low quality version of WoW. The TES fans obviously aren't really excited about this game from what we know so far either, so who do they think is going to subscribe to this game?

Skyrim kiddies....

I doubt that, if by Skyrim kiddies you mean people whose first ES game was Skyrim, I would think even they would be taken aback by the insane departure from the Skyrim systems. It might keep most of them away.

ironic...WoW is warcraft in mmo form.
so its not the first time a series has become more famous and successful simply by evolving off of the everquest formula
but that matters little.

its actually not wow, its going to be similar to guild wars 2, another descendant of everquest.
and guild wars 2 is a deviation of the formula with its emphasis on dynamic gameplay and visceral combat, but familiar enough to mostly keep itself rooted as a great mmo.
cant wait till GW2 comes out for real, and i cant wait to see more of ESO to see how they make it stand out from the crowd.
