Brand new puppy, advice?

You may want to get him some powdered puppy milk that you mix with water, a lot of breeds of dog are lactose intolerant (one of my dogs is) and cows milk may upset his tummy. He looks very young and probably isn't used to solid food yet, try some puppy biscuits mixed with the puppy milk, worked well for me whenever I got a new dog and I've had dogs all my life.

You'll know for sure if his tongue turns very dark purple or even blue as he gets older.

Good to know. I haven't looked at his tongue much, but I does have a dark tint to it.

Make sure as he/she gets older to handle every body part; Ears, tail, legs, and feet. Don't be ruff, just handle them, gentle tugs and the like. This will teach your dog that this is normal, so if a younger child comes over it won't nip when the child grabs at the floppy parts of the dog. I have had success in keeping a wolf, a Lab, and a beagle from nipping overzealous children when they try to play with them.

An idea to train the over zealous child as well.

When people bring over-zealous children to my house I meet them at the door and say "How nice! You brought a snack for the dogs!"

Call a pet store and ask someone who knows what they're talking about ;)
