Bretons Magic resistance...25%? 50%? which is CORRECT?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:10 am

Many of you may notice the "hint" that bretons start with a 50% magic resistance (just as they had in oblivion), however when creating and playing a breton you see in your active effects that you really only have a 25% resistance. Whats wrong? the hint or the actual level of magic resistance? too much conflicting data, make it right please

i personally think a 25% resistance AFTER ALREADY HAVING A 50% IN A PREVIOUS GAME is just really stupid, especially since the 50% resistance is THE ONLY REASON I MADE A BRETON ANYWAY. to me a 25% resistance is worthless, id rather have the extra 50 mana and highborn ability of the high elf.

Don't play a Breton then.

25% is plenty fine.

Spoiler
Stack it with lord stone, agent of mara, and one piece of magic resistance gear and you're already magic resistance capped.

It's 25%. Get the Atronach sign and you get a 50 magicka bonus plus a free refill from mages. With the once a day Breton power your are immune to magic for 60 sec - perfect for a dragon priest encounter.

25% is still the most powerful passive racial and 50% was absurdly overpowered in previous games.

You also have a ability that gives you 50% magic absorption for 60 seconds. You can easily meet the 80% magic resistance cap with a breton, lord stone 25%, mara quest 15%, thats 65% right there. 65% is enough to be honest, using the ability as well will mean mages do barely any damage to you.

25% off the bat useless??? Especially considering magic is all the elements... frost, fire, storm. I'd say that's a bit of a stretch

Its a great passive ability, the best of any races I think. 25% is fine, and all I ever play are Bretons.

Bretons also have 50% magicka absorption this time. It's once per day but if combined with the Atronach stone Bretons are the only characters in the game who can become immune to magic when it really matters.

I agree, they're the best although the 50% elemental resistances of the Nord and Dunmer aren't terrible.

Bethesda has a history of providing inaccurate information in loading screen tips (e.g. Oblivion's "A high Willpower allows you to defend against magical attacks")

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the changes to the Breton racial powers but I'm very happy with it. I used to forget to use it in Oblivion but for the big fights in Skyrim, it's made a real difference. The magic resistance Alteration perks along with the racial abilities make you very powerful against magic.

25 percent is perfectly fine as far as I'm concerned. I may have to play a breton eventually.
