Brink svcks?

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 12:31 am

So I went into gamestop, and was gonna buy Brink since I'm cheap.
And I brought it to the counter and the cashier told me the game was awful, and that it would be a waste of money.
What I want to know, is there any validity to that statement , or just another opinion?

First, question marks in the topic name would be nice, OK?
Second... it's a mixed bag. It's not bad, if you want nice story, music and visuals, but the gameplay needs polish and the singleplayer campaign is not really good.

Sounds like an opinion doesn't it? Everyone has different tastes in games

Exactly, everyone does have different opinions, but I don't think it's right for the cashier to just say that the game is awful and that it's just a waste of money, they should just let you to but the game without trying to bring you down on your purchase.

Well, I was more or less looking for the story of this particular game, and I forgot to put a question mark, sorry..

By story you mean the singleplayer campaign? Brink is a multiplayer only game and you shouldn't get it for the story (which is same as mp games but with bots and some cinematic in between). But on the other hand. You can probably find the game for less then 10 bucks. What's there to lose? Brink also doesn't need a online pass or anything

Based on my experiences with this game, I wouldn't disagree with that statement.

BRINK is a pretty solid shooter in my opinion. I absolutely love the head to head multiplayer, as well as the class selection and character customization options. Load up a heavy body type, class Soldier with nasty grenades and a Gatlin gun... nom nom nom nom. Or go hyperspeed on the light body type.

The "smart movement" leaping over obstacles is extremely smooth once you get it down, and the "sliding" into enemy players and knocking them down is insane.

While the "storyline" is well written, and the "Ark" concept is pretty awesome, the missions are completely linear and there's not much depth to the PVE game. Most of the cutscenes dont really show your character or include them in the storyline. The AI bots are awful. The "challanges" however are a great way to learn the game mechanics, unlock weapons/appearance items, rank up your character, and polish your shooter skills. In fact, after mastering the game I still find the challanges extremely.... well, challanging. Sure, there's room for improvement, but in my opinion the "campaign" per say is just there for the PVE crowd. Unfortunately the PVE/campaign aspect of the game is extremely WEAK. My take is the PVE aspect of the game is just there so you can get to the real meat and potatoes of the game, Multiplayer/PVP.

BRINK really shines in the PVP/Multiplayer arena. Container City... nom nom nom. Buffing team mates and refilling ammo is pretty huge, different classes are required for completing, or defending objectives, which makes BRINK pretty unique. You can also start a Private Match/"solo", with 0 AI, and run the exact same maps you run versus other players, all by yourself. Great for testing out weapons/classes, as well as a great way to learn all the ins and outs of every map. A lot of other shooters you can only run the maps versus other players. BRINK's Damage threshold is pretty sane, and there's not as much of the insane "one shotting" from the hip you see in many other FPS/Multiplayers.

I'd love to see a sequal to BRINK, with a little more depth in storyline, and of course, all new maps and customization options for online multiplayer. I'd give the campaign a 3/10 and the multiplayer a 9/10. Character Customization/Weapon Customization 10/10.

I agree with you. I personally love this game and also would love a sequel. Deep character and weapon customization, the challenges were a pain at Lv 3 but it gets you really powerful. The storyline is OK, In overall I thought it was interesting. So yes, I think the game is awesome because of SMART mostly. If you're a big fan of big shooters, this will maybe not be for you, but you can try it out to see how it goes, hope you like it.

Yup, I have to agree with the cashier, I was on my way to the Fallout forums and my touch screen failed me and I landed on Brink. This was the first one that came up and I decided I'd join the rant. It's a horrible game (IMO) and I beat it in a couple hours, why don't you just play FO:3 or FO:NV? much better story, gameplay, music, and replay value, I still haven't done everything in FO3 and I got it when it was new.

If the guy who makes money off of you buying the game says that he would rather not make money in this situation...

BRINK isn't like Fallout, it's more of a middle-class shooter than a open world adventure game. Besides, BRINK was considered as a under-the-radar game and was created at fast pace. If they took their time like all the other games then it probably would've filled the heads of many. For a UTR game, I think it went rather magnificent!

I imagine the gamestop guy completed the campaign on normal level in about 3 hours or less of gameplay. If that's the case, then I can see why he would think BRINK is pretty weak. Probably never ran a challange(thus missing out on a lot of gear unlocks), and never played the multiplayer. Could be wrong though, to each their own.

Personally i cant stand COD in any form.. it's extremely arcade like in my opinion, but that's just my opinion. Does that mean COD svcks?

Ok I get that the cashier was trying to be cool and let you know that the game svcked, in his opinion, but what a crappy employee! If I were his boss and found out that he was turning away business because of his "opinion" of the product I was selling, I'd be pretty pissed-off!

Anyways, the game has alot of potential, but just falls short in too many areas, in my OPINION. Too laggy. If it had the smooth gameplay/controls like Rage, long with the same exact options that are already available in the game as-is, it would be a smash hit.

Brink is a great game with what amounts to a cult following.

I would prefer that employees reserve their OPINION on something unless you ask for it directly. Still, I would take any opinion with a spoonful of salt unless it's someone I know and respect. It also helps if the person giving the opinion plays games similar to what you're buying.

The game isn't awful, it's just very, what seems like, rushed. I'm playing it just now and came on the forums to see what others thought of it.

The story and setting has so much potential, but unfortunatly story takes a back seat and it's left to the clunky combat to make the majority of the game. If they had spent much more time developing the plot and created a much deeper story, it truly could have been a great game, maybe it will be in the future with a sequel.

The customisation is really fun, but it kinda goes to waste because you hardly ever see your character within the hectic missions. The body types are a nice touch and it adds more variety along with classes. Don't know why they decided to ommit females completely .

Overall it's not an amazing game. The combat isn't great, the story is pushed to the side and there isn't much to keep you playing long, but on the other hand it can be very enjoyable in some cases and it's different from other FPS's out there, so I would say it's worth a buy if you get it cheap.

multiplayer!!! I've been having an absolute blast with Multiplayer on and off since the game came out. And I still go nuts tweaking my weapons and outfits.... I recently purchased the Psycho/Doom pack(thought I had all the DLC last year) that includes 2 additional pistol types, weapon skins for a few of the SMGs, and that narly Scarecrow hood for Resistance.

I just love firing up the game, with that crisp, clean UI and the "relaxing" ARK elevator Music really gets me fired up and ready to get some trigger time.

Side Note I rented "RAGE" last weekend, one of Bethesda/Id's latest releases.. now that's a game I would not recommend. Funny how opinions vary so greatly on any given game. Anyway I swear i heard some BRINK voice overs copied exactly from BRINK in the 30 minutes I tried to play that game. Seeing as how polished and crisp the look of BRINK is I was actually pretty surprised RAGE was of such poor quality, the UI seemed like it was from the 80s, and the shooter aspect was extremely clunky and awkward.

The games aren't made by the same studio's. Only same kind of engine's (id Tech 4 and 5, [censored] popup textures engine) and Bethesda is just the publisher of the games.

Its a game for some one with an open mind, or someone that has patience.

Did he ask you, "Would you like to pre-order (insert yet to be released video game)?"

I traded my original copy in several months ago and recently picked it up again, having the itch. I was told by the cashier that it was horrible, i told him that he had been brainwashed by Infinity Ward. Its a different type of shooter, that actually takes teamwork to be successful. Had it been more polished and better supported, i'd call it one of the greats.

I like this game because it does something different to other standard shooters like MOH and COD. If I was given the option for a refund I would refuse even now that I cannot find any full servers because it just love the SMART motion let alone all the other gorgeous looking weapons.
