I Broke Skyrim D:

Post » Sat Jan 26, 2013 10:44 pm

So i wanted to get a mod, which required another mod, which required SKSE, i was new to installing stuff like that so i read some instructions online, so i put the launcher in the skyrim file like it said, then launched it, it worked, i quit, i use too many commas, and i tried to install the second mod to install the first, i couldnt get it to work so i decided eh forget it, i deleted it and tried to run skyrim, it said something about not being able to find skyrim.ese, i took out the SKSE launcher file from skyrim, i launched it from the default steam launcher, after i hit play it said: skyrim has stopped working, etc etc etc, i tried taking out the files it said to put in from SKSE, same thing (i only took out like 4 because those are the only ones i saw with SKSE in the name), i tried many other things that i forget, none worked. Are there more files i need to take out? is there a way to fix it? i backed up all the files afterwards just in case i need to reset it, please someone help!

Crash on launch usually means a missing master. Just a tip, installing SKSE on its own is very, very difficult to mess up. What you should do is install things one thing at a time. Install SKSE, test the game for a while. Then try one mod, test it. Then another. Never install multiple things at once or you'll end up in the mess you're currently in.

Best thing to do is just to delete the game from your Steam library, delete the Skyrim folder and your INI files, and then re-download Skyrim. Start from scratch. If you've been removing files left right and centre then your Data folder might be in a right state.

Saves are in My Documents/My Games/Skyrim/Saves. As long as you have the same mods installed in the saves, then you'll be fine.

What you can't do with Skyrim (unlike previous games) is yank mods and expect a save to work correctly.

Have you tried verifying the local files?
