This should be in the Spoilers section, not General Oblivion. ;) As for what I like about him:

Spoiler
I like the fact that, even though he is a priest, he's not perfect. He made some costly mistakes in his youth. He learned from them and moved on. He's also very good in a crisis.

he's not like jauffre... he asks you to help while jauffre commands you to.

and when he gets the amulet of kings, note that it doesn't get lost.

On a personal level, Martin is one of the best characters in the game. His personality is the most fully developed and he is wonderfully voiced by Sean Bean. I'm not sure whether it's the writing or the voicing or both, but I still get a little choked up at the end of the Main Quest.

I like the way he is voice acted by Sean Bean. He comes across as I think intended. Humble, a bit reluctant to be Emperor, but doing his part to save the world. Not at all pretentious or arrogant.

Also it's a nice touch about how he refers to some of the nasty things he got involved in years ago.

he's not like jauffre... he asks you to help while jauffre commands you to....

That makes sense given Jauffre's miltary orientation, and Martins background.

He was a nice guy and what I would consider to be a pal to my character.

Hell, the only pal he had.

thought he was a right pain in the butt, always moanind, always seemed to wimp out, and seamed to be a bit of a plank, i mean, the battle at the end he just sorta spoke and sounded boring, i was like "ROAR!!!! TAMRIEL!!" and he was like "i was a bit sceptical about this so i brang 20 men... but i'm only sending one in... yay...."

dont troll with me, it's my oppinion.

I have to agree with this too.

I never thought of using him like that :P

Anyway. In some of my characters' canon, I don't really address the main quest, and only do it just to complete it. For example, my 'Main', is a crime lord. Now why would officials ever come for him for help unless they had absolutely no one else? That is unlikely.

Most of my other characters would count though, and most of them would like Martin.

I thought Martin was pretty cool. It didnt really make me sad when he died though.

I was more sad when Baurus died. Jauffre? Pssh.. I stabbed him with his own sword.

I also lost Baurus in that last big fight at the Great Oblivion gate outside of Bruma. It was with a good knight-like character some time ago, the only character I ever closed all 60 Oblivion gates with, so that last one was epic in more ways then one.
Felt more sorry for losing him then I ever did for Martin. I kept Bauru's leather arm-thingies, enchanted them and named them 'Bands of Baurus' as sort of a tribute.
Martin is an ok character but just one thing: Why can't he get a friggin horse when I have to take him from Kvatch aaaalllll the way back to Chorrol?
I did that trip only twice, the other times I just fast travel back, which I normally rarely do.

That's why i want to kick jauffre in the eye. Also why would he put the amulet of kings in a place were it could be stolen easily ?

I liked Martin. First of all Sean Bean's voice acting FTW! But beyond that, he is not a boring, one-dimensional superhero. He is essentially a regular guy who finds himself thrust into the center of one of the worst disasters of Tamriel's history. With the annihilation of the world looming ever nearer, he is expected to somehow hold it all together and save the day. No pressure there! Rather than reacting with one-dimensional fortitude, we see his doubts as he tries to live up to the imposible role that is expected of him, the same uncertainty any real person would have. In the end he does step up to the plate and make the sacrifice fly, showing that even regular people can make a difference in the world.

I liked Martin alot and was kinda sad when he did what he did at the end of the main questline.

To me he is sorta like Oblivions version of Caius cosades.

Hey, who says he is dead? Maybe he'll come back as Tamriel's God-Emperor or become a new Divine, or maybe the next game will be about freeing him from his statue to save the Empire once again. We don't really know what happened to him.

Brother Martin and Erthor are my bro's. Reverse pickpocket a full set of perma-bound equipment onto them and watch them control the battlefield. I was amused to find myself "The Hero of Kvatch" merely for turning Erthor loose on the daedra.
