BSA vs Loose

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 10:44 am

Hey guys, what is your preferred method of distribution and why? Up til now I've only used loose, but with my hunting mod growing with nifs and scripts etc I'm debating putting it all together in a BSA when upload.

What's your thoughts? :)

BSA, far more practical for the users. ;)

BSA but only if it actually warrants one. Shoving two texture files and a mesh into a BSA is just a waste.

Ok well I'm using a paintings resource so there's a lot of those nifs and textures. There's also lots and lots of scripts, quest and standalone. A fair amount of voice files also.

So probably best to make a BSA?

Our only goal should be that our mods are the less difficult for the users to install, not to avoid us some work. :)

You don't even need to ask. :)

I offer both.

I prefer a BSA (as SomeWelshGuy, when it makes sense) but some people actually NEED the loose files as their Skyrim fails to read resources from BSA file. (Very small percent, but it happens.) So I just offer both. I need to make the directory structure anyway to make my BSA file (I *always* make the BSA file manually now.) So after I make the BSA, I move it to it's own folder with the ESP and zip it up for the loose file version.

@ladyonthemoon
Yea I suppose :P

@Sollar
That a good idea actually. I'll make 2 versions, give the user the choice.

ladyonthemoon, realize, there are also people who do not want "another" bsa file as they are approaching the 250 bsa file limit. Not hard to do at all if each texture or two are thrown in to a bsa. Of course, those users can always extract the files from the BSA and make their own, and I know they do, but the loose file version is just easier.
