BSOD / stuttering sound

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:20 am

Hello everyone,

First of all I hope you dont mind that my english isn't well, but hopefully understandable.
I play Falliut New Vegas for apprx. 20 hours (real game time) and until now randomly bsod appear and force me to restart the pc.
But moreover to this fact, while playing, sound stuttering appears as well....

I tried so far several solutions but with no success :(
Here is the list of what I tried out:1)I have no FFDSHOW installed on pc (regarding sound problem)
2)newest audio (Creative Audio Blaster Audigy 4) and video card (ATI Radeon HD4870 1 GB) drivers
3)fixed .ini to limit usable cores to two
4)disabled ATI A.I.
5)Started the game windowed
6)activated VSync
7)newest patch for Fallout

My system ist running on Windows XP 32bit / 3GB RAM / AMD Phenom II 940 (4 cores á 3GHZ) / video and audio card mentioned above and I am playing english version of Fallout NV

Does anyone of you may have a possible (new) solution to fix this? I would be very glad to hear anything due to the fact that I would like to play it without saving the game process every few minutes in order to avoid losing game process after BSOD.

Thank you very much in advance

rgds,
Vilbur

What power supply have you got?
The power supply is the one that powers the pc.
The power cord hooks up to it.
It located at the back either top or bottom.
Most powers supplies have switches.
Looks like you have a unstable power supply.
Or like my, your graphics card is dying.

Hi Gerza,

Thanks for fast reply.
If I understand it right....I have a 550Watt power supply unit. Until now everything worked fine with this supply unit (for example. empire total war, mass effect2, etc.).
Do you have any hints regarding this problem outgoing from my power supply (buying a new one / new graphic cards - but no artefacts until now in games)?

You could try changing a DirectX setting like so, which make help,

Click Run and type "dxdiag" , a window shuld popup, select the Sound tab and change The Hardware Sound Accelleration Level slider to "Basic Accelleration" .

This worked for a BSOD i was getting whenever i went into VATS.

Hope it works for you.

Also, try to update your Main Board BIOS, and also, your Audio Drivers.

That have fixed all issues I had with both Fallout 3 and New Vegas

Hi,

thanks for the many replies and hints.
Firstly I tried it out to select basic accelleration (second slide level from right). But it did not work :(
Secondly I updated my Creative soundblaster audigy 4 with newest driver, but it also did not work....
(I am not sure about Mainboard Bios Update...In the past I updated the mainboard driver in my opinion...but only under the guidance of a professional friend, as I am not sure about these things)

Moreover I tried to decrease view distance to half of maximum and disabled the water multisampling...but as well no luck with this solution.

I have to say I did not have such errors with Fallout3 as I was playing it in the past.
Is there a possilibity to attach something to thge postings ( I have images about error description of windows and the dxdiag sheet)?

Thanks for more feedback in advance and rgds,
Vilbur

Hi Guys,

Good news ...seemingly the soundcard was the main problem. I disabled it and activated onboard sound in BIOS, then patched the onboard sound to newest level.
After apprx. 90minutes of playing no BSOD until now. I hope this was the final solution at all :)

Thank you very much for your kind and fast support.
