This is what occurred in my character's life span that make me believe this is a bug, that I cannot marry anyone.
I hope I am wrong and somebody tell me how to fix this.

• Three Imperial guards that was walking on my path with a prisoner, I saved the prisoner and killed the three guards.
  
• One of the guard had the Amulet of Mara on him, I took it. (At that point, I had no idea what it was)
  
• Completed The Book of Love, received Amulet of Mara and Agent of Mara blessing.
  
• So I went to the girl in Riverwood to ask to marry her, there was no dialogue option at all. (I had completed the quest to bring back something to their shop.)
  
• Then as I had patched Skyrim with the 1.5, I thought I could try ask Lydia to marry me after buying the house and all. No, there was no such option either.
  
• Yes, I had the Amulet of Mara on me all the time!

So what is wrong here?

Talk to maramal, at the bee and barb or in the temple of mara.

Talk to the guy to get the marriage task quest and try. ↑↑↑↑ what he said.


If that doesn't work then well...Probably a bug.

You must buy an Amulet of Mara from Maramal. You cant just use any old one you find. The quest 'The Book of Love' has no relation to 'The Bonds of Matrimony'.

I don't wish to sound like an ass, but this has already been answered in the post you put in the spoilers section.

Did that, only thing he talked about was how to get married and I needed to wear Amulet of, you know. And that is what I've been doing, no other options there.
Hm. Perhaps this dialogue activated the Amulet then? Sounds weird, sigh. Okey. Let me find somebody to ask for marriage, he he.

you don't have to buy the amulet from him. you just need to talk with maramal, also keep in mind not all NPC are marriage material.
