Bug rides...how far can you go

Post » Wed Aug 08, 2012 9:53 am

Shout out to Amarantine's post in 100 things to do in Skyrim. Who knew you could ride bugs? Thought it was a jest but today I rode a Luna Moth...about 2 feet. What's your best ride? Again, thanks Amarantine.

Is this where they push you around?

Nope. If they land or are low enough, and you jump just right so you land on them, they will lift you up!

No prob. I've made it around the quarter or so of Riften where the orphanage is in one flight on a torchbug, I can reliably get to the roof of the orphanage using them. Invisible wall blocks escape from the city unfortunately.

Really?!
This is amazing. I need to try this. Is this similar to that thread 'Shadowmere was just kidnapped by a butterfly' a while back?

I was jumping over a pool of water near the dungeon where you fight a certain necromancer to get a daedric artifact, and I landed on a torchbug. I flew around for a few feet before I jumped off.

This has been so much fun. Cannot thank you enough. I tried it out in the wilderness....my 2 foot success. Will be trying everywhere. Esp. when I get back to Riften

A video of a bandit being lifted into a tree upon walking onto a blue butterfly (probably like a one in a million chance) is what made me try it. So yeah probably.

Couple of words of advice. Easiest bug to mount (for me) is the Torchbug. I find this easiest to do by looking straight down in first person whilst jumping toward it, then as soon as I land hitting a "sweet spot" around the centre of the bug. Not looking around seems, though I'm not sure, to increase your odds of staying on; Staying in first person definitely does. I fall off within a couple of feet almost every time I go into third person, though I've made it to the orphanage roof once in third person. Fun stuff.

Your race probably also affects it, though I'm not sure. I've mostly only done this with a Khajiit.

Spoiler
Who needs dragon mounts when you can ride bugs?
