bugged quest - Rjorns Drum

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:11 pm

Bit of a long story but stay with me.

This is the first time I have played Skyrim.

I came out the Blue Palace in Solitude and a Courier ran up with "Letter of Inheritance" saying that Giraud Gemane has died and left me some money, I didn't recognise the name but I had done a lot of side quests so figured it would have been from one of those.

A few quests later I get Kings Olafs Verse and complete the quest and move on to the Flute and Lute and the Drum. Speaking to each of the teachers to pick up the quests, I did this with no problems, but I didn't really pay attention of the names of the quests givers.

No problems with the Flue and the Lute.

The Drum I collected with no problems but when I get back to Solitue the guy who gave me the quest has vanished.

It wasn't until I checked my quest log that the name sounded familiar and I remembered the letter.

Somehow the game has allowed me to collect a quest from a dead man, then remembered that the man is dead removed him of the game and won't let me complete the quest. I have tried talking to the other teachers but they wont take it.

As I am playing on the xbox I don't have the first idea how to remove either the quest line or the item manually, also as the drum (weighs 4) is a quest item I can't store or drop it, so I have to lug it around everywhere which becomes very annoying when when I am over encumbered!

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?

Some people claim that the quest items weigh 0 even if they display weight.

In my own testing on PS3, it's entirely untrue. It does weigh. It's extremely annoying.

Undropable items and unkillable NPCs are handholding that I don't appreciate.

Some quest items weigh and some don't, but, yeah, annoying either way.

The undroppable and essential annoy me, too. Just give us one warning and let us do what we want. After few trips back and forth to gather our quest items we've stored or having to restart because we sold/dropped an item or killed an essential NPC we'll learn...or maybe we won't, but that's on us. <_<

I think a better system with quest items would be a pop-up message when you try to drop it, saying: "This item is related to a quest, are you sure you want to drop it? [Yes / No]" That way, when this pops up, you know that you should store it and not dump it anywhere.

That's what I suggested:

Man, there are some things that just svck huge boulders through little bitty straws for you folks on consoles.... That's all just.... painful. Nope, I don't have any help for you, mythica1, but I just wanted to say I hope Beth comes up with a patch or something that will help.

Though.... if you have a pc that will run Skyrim, or you know someone who does, you can swap a save game to pc, download the mod to drop quest items, drop the damn drum, save the game, and swap it back to console. (And I'm not sure that works for ALL console versions....)

Also, there's a guy who posts here who will do the above to help out - but it's only one console type I think. Let me see if I can find his username for you.

and check her sig....

[Edited to correct gender of person under discussion.... should have checked her profile *blush*]

You guys get As for effort. Yaaaaaaaaay.

But yeah, as is, you're in a bind. Quest items don't appear to weigh anything on any of my characters (I use a 360, too,) but they can clog up your inventory and give you a biiit of OCD. I'll message you the bit about fixing it via console. Awaaay~
