bugs per disk?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:12 pm

Is there any way all these crazy unplayable bugs be related to your own copy of the game? Because me, and my friend both have ps3 copies and we have no problems. I mean I have a 160gb slim, only 6 months old. my save file is about 5.7mb, and I have yet to experience anything but the occasional game freeze when it auto saves. I hope its patchable, but is it possible it could be contained on your disk and not all copies?

I don't think the OP is here trying to make those with properly working copies feel bad. If you look at this, and other posts of his/hers you will see that they are asking questions. Questions that may help shed some light on why others may be having problems. My copy works fine as well, and yet, here I am, trying to find some semblance of a pattern or set of circumstances that may be causing others trouble. Like it or not, we not all here to complain. Some of us actually care and are taking time away from playing to try and help others.

Please don't get defensive. Sorry if your game is giving you some problems, but most people are trying to help

I don't mean to brag or offend. There is no need to get upset. I'm simply stating a thought i had. I'm working on getting my save file larger just so I can see if anything happens.

I also think it might be faulty disks.
My friends save file exceeds 7mb and he has no problems whatsoever.
My save is at 3.5mb and i have no lag... BUT, the left side of the map is broken for me.
I cannot access it in any way.
If i use a carriage from Whiterun to any of the Northwestern Cities i will arrive, but as soon as i start moving the world is gone...
Like really missing, unfinished u know... And if i try to run across the line where there's no world anymore i get a message"U can't go there" and i'm stuck. Have to reset PS at this point.
If i travel on foot from Whiterun going west everything goes fine, until i reach the point of Fort Greymoor, past that point the game starts to stutter like mad, then the world will dissapear and same stuff happens.
Tried completing the Dark Brotherhood questline, everything goes superb, untill i exit the Abandoned Shack, which lies in the western part of the world, gameworld goes missing, game starts stuttering till it hangs and have to reset PS.
Whenever i wanna go to the western parts of the map this happens, game keeps running superb as long as i don't cross the line past Fort Greymoor (vertical line across map from that point).

Tried 3 different times, 3 different new games... same stuff happens all over again past same points...
No matter how far into the game i am, no matter how large my save file is, no matter which level i am...
Nothing matters, just when i go to the western side of the map game crashes...
I even tried at the start of the game, get to Whiterun ASAP, do nothing else, and take a carriage to Soltitude or Morthal or Markarth...
Same stuff...

I'll try and get a Movie up on youtube so u can see what i mean with 'missing gameworld'.

I really think some disks are faulty...

Wow, I'm sorry for you. Can you return it and say the disk was faulty?
I really hope it isn't the disks, but if it is I hope Bethesda does right and does a free Callback on anyone who wants to return it for a stable copy (if the disks are the case)

I just can't see it being a disc error (in fact I would place a large bet on this!).

Discs are uniformally printed based on the v1.0 vanilla version of the game. Its almost certainly personal hardware and system set up.

ps: my save file is 5.2mb and is actually working pretty well now, although I did turn off all autosaves, as the game seemed to be making 3-4 copies of this, even though only 1 was visible. (I worked this out by checking data on the dashboard)

I'll obviously monitor as this gets bigger and report back.

I disagree.

I'm planning on buying a console in the next week. I've been leaning towards a PS3 but the lag/stutter issues is giving me pause. It helps to hear some cases where people don't have problems and maybe why they don't so I can decide if I should buy a 360 instead. If anything, I think there needs to be more people being vocal when they don't have a problem to give a full picture.

MrCasualPlayer,

Without wanting to start a flame war, I have both consoles and generally the PS3 is the better technical machine, although the Xbox live set up is probably the better of the two. I bought Skyrim on both, and I actually prefer the PS3 version (based on texture quality), hence am playing that. The only thing I don't like so far on the PS3, are the shadows, that are too pixelated and slightly flickery in places, and also the well reported lag, although this is not a major issue for me yet.

I'm now sure i had a faulty disc!
I went to the store where i bought the game and explained my issue.
The storekeeper made some calls and took my disc back and replaced it with a new copy.

Just got home, deleted all Skyrim installed data and inserted the new gamedisc.
Installed the game again and installed the patch again.

Loaded my save from earlier where i could not exit the Abandoned Shack from the Dark Brotherhood quest because the world was missing and crashed my PS3.
I now can exit the Shack, the world is fully there, no lag, no hickups, no stuttering... everything runs perfectly now!

So there ARE faulty discs out there for PS3!

The lag is being caused by a memory leak simply quit the game and start again and the game will run fresh for a few hours, my save file is now 8.8mb so this 6.1 magic number is nonsense

So is you claiming that it is a memory leak. We have NO PROOF of such a thing.

It's entirely possible that there is a huge batch of faulty discs out there, I posted in another thread about this.

When I bought Killzone 3 back in February, I'm certain I had a faulty disc experience. Very early in the beginning of the game it would freeze in a particular spot every single time. I tried uninstalling the game data and saved data, and reinstalling everything, it would still freeze in that same spot. So the next day I took it back to the store and exchanged it for another copy. I did the uninstall/reinstall with the new copy, and it worked flawlessly without freezing in the same spot as the previous disc. I would consider this a faulty disc experience, so yes I believe there could be a bad batch of discs out there, and if the problem is as widespread as it seems to be Bethesda may have to do a product recall, and give us new copies for free.

Thanks, Rich.

I'm certainly not trying to start a console war. Over the past 2+ decades, I've owned Nintendos, Segas, Sonys, and XBOXs. And at this point I'm just too old to care.

What I do care about, though, is getting a system that works for Skyrim. And the idea that I would drop a couple of hundred dollars on a console just for one game and then have that game be unplayable is making me think that getting a PS3 isn't the best way to go. I prefer to get a PS3. I like Sony better than MS. And I'd like to have something that can play Blu-Rays. It just saddens me that the PS3 version is so bad that people are trying every setting they can just to squeeze a few hours of play out of it. In some other thread, some guy said that Bethesda should be ashamed and I agree. This is a basic Q/C issue which should never have been released given the long time-horizon over which they produce their games. This isn't some glitch where if you have a certain follower when you try a certain quest the code conflicts and you can't complete it. This is basic playability of your game on 1 of the 3 platforms that you released it on.

My file size is over 8MB Luckily I have had no issues with the game. I do have autosave off except on wait.

Did you try uninstalling and re-installing all of your Skyrim information before getting a new disk?

Game was fine for me at around 6 mb aswell, but now when the file is almost 10 mb, it's just brutal. Not even a bit enjoyable anymore.
