My Build. Best IMO.

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:03 pm

So I've seen plenty of builds posted on this forum and although I applaud all of those builds, I think mine is a great overall/sniper build.

S-6
P-6
E-6
C-1
I-10
A-6
L-10

Traits:
Small Frame
Trigger Discipline

Implants:
Agility
Luck
Monocyte Breeder
Perception
Strength
Sub-Dermal Armor

Perks:

Better Criticals
Commando
Confirmed Bachelor
Finesse
Gunslinger
Hunter
Shotgun Surgeon
Silent Running
Sniper
Super Slam
Weapon Handling

Skills:
Barter:13 ( I have 132,894 caps currently so there is no need for this to go past the starting level.)
Energy Weapons: 20
Explosives: 30
Guns:100
Lockpick:90 ( I read a skill magazine when I see a Very Hard Lock.)
Medicine:30
Melee Weapons:65
Repair:45
Science:50 ( This allows passage through Average computers and allows me to create Turbo,my favorite Chem.)
Sneak:100
Speech:60 ( I wear Naughty NIghtwear and read a speech Magazine to pass harder speech challenges.)
Survival:30
Unarmed:41

Unarmed Special Moves:
Dirty Khan Trick
Ranger Takedown
Legion Assault will be aquired the next level up.

Future Perks:
Slayer
Nerves of Steel

This build is still in progress as I am only level 23, but I feel will be able to dominate everything with no followers or chems. I am able to crit everything about 60-80% of all shots. I can kill any Human/Humanoid opponent with just my fists.

That is my build. I hope you like it. Any comments or suggestions would be nice.

You didn't take educated?

You missed out on an extra 42 skill points. It looks alright I guess, but if I was going to take Shotgun Surgeon I would also take the Cowboy perk because the Lever-action Shotgun can dish out more DPS than any shotgun in the game at this point with both perks together.

25% more damage, and ignoring 10 Damage Threshold, also 20 gauge ammo is in abundance so you can craft tons of ammo. What more could you ask for?

On my next playthrough I'm considering making a shotgun user with a little melee, the Shotgun Surgeon and Cowboy perk with LA-Shotty just sounds fun as hell.

I don't like the Lever Action Shotgun or else I would have. The Riot Shotgun can pump out more rounds faster so I prefer that one. 12ga ammo is not THAT hard to come by although 20 ga is much easier to find. As far as educated goes I might consider dropping gunslinger for that on another build, I think although the perk is useless after level 30. But 42 points IS alot.

Yes and with the Ninja Perk you get the bonuses for ranged weapons such as throwing knives and hatchest. Awesome.

If you take it at level 2 you will get an additional 56 points by 30.

The Riot Shotgun actually fires slower than the Lever Action. Really the only upside with the Riot Shotgun is it's increased cit damage and bigger ammo capacity, It also has a larger spread than the Lever Action. With Cowboy Perk the Lever-Action's damage will be knocked up to 60 while the Riot Gun is 67 I think. Also keep in mind that the Riot Shotgun requires higher skill and more strength to use efficiently.

But yeah with out the perks the Riot Shotgun obviously outshines the Lever, but I see no point in taking Shotgun Surgeon unless I was going to take the Cowboy perk because the Lever-Action shotgun would be insane.

I remind you that I have weapon handling and a guns of 100. It's probably more of a preference I guess, but I don't want to drop the other perks I'm going to be getting for cowboy. I love running through a tight corridoor blasting the riot shotgun. Reminds me of the AA12 in CoD and The Expendables.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference. I think shotguns are pretty much useless compared to other weapons such as the Trail Carbine, Brush Gun, Assault Carbine and etc. Early they are good but later in the game I just feel like they would be lacking.

I believe the Lever-Action Shotgun is an exception, only if you take the 2 perks though. Cowboy also increases the effectiveness of many other weapons as well. All the level action weapons, all the revolvers, dynamite, combat knife, hatchet, throwing hatchet, throwing knife, and etc.

If anything the Cowboy perk would be really useful for the Brush Gun.

The brush gun is good but nothing ever gets into that range and if they do I just level them with the riot shotgun. I might swithch to The Dinnerbell once I obtain it.

Counter-intuitively, trigger discipline is terrible for a sniper build. 20% increased accuracy on a weapon that already has a very small minimum sway (as all the sniper-type rifles do) is a very, very tiny difference - but 20% decreased fire rate is huge, particularly against late-game high DT enemies who may take a couple of shots.

Why do people take +VATS accuracy perks on "sniper builds"? At the range you are going to be hitting things VATS is useless with or without perks.

My guns build is better :P

S-5
P-5
E-7
C-2
I-10
A-6
L-6

7 Endurance = 7 Implants, 2 obviously go to the non-SPECIAL ones -

S-6
P-6
E-7
C-3
I-10
A-7
L-7

Can min-max a bit more by taking less charisma of course but I try not to be too min-maxed. >_<

Tag guns, repair, sneak. Or whatever, doesn't matter as long as you make sure to get the skill needed for perks and max guns, but you'll need 90 repair and 50 sneak too.

Take Good Natured(not using most of the non-gun combat skills) and Wild Wasteland
Could take Built to Destroy, as you'll have Jury Rigging, but I didn't bother as you don't need the extra damage really and I can't be arsed repairing more often.

Main Perks

Rapid Reload
Educated
Toughness
Toughness
Hand Loader
Silent Running
Stone Wall
Better Criticals
Adamantium Skeleton
Finesse

Very durable, amazing sneak attack/critical damage with .308 JSP(I 1 shot the Legendary Deathclaw). Damage with .45-70 Gov SWC in the Ranger Sequoia and Magnum 12ga for the Riot Shotgun for faster targets was nice too(I play w/out VATS).

Suggested additional perks (you've got 5 left)-

Life Giver
Travel Light (If you wear light armor)
Jury Rigging
Chemist
Pack Rat
Tag!
Strong Back

Not sure I understand why anyone would put 10 points in any stat when you can buy (1) of each for 4k in caps? With Int, you can easily have $4k by lvl 6 thus only losing about 3-6 skill points by not taking it earlier (1/2 point per lvl, correct?). Anyway, giving up a full stat for a handful of points doesn't make much sense to me. As far as luck goes, again I'd say you can wait a few levels before you buy your 10th without any harm done to you character.

LOL... classic.

I can picture the Super Mutants looking at you funny while you change to answer their questions, though.

Don't need 10 luck or intelligence. Basicly it's a cookie-cutter Min-Max character.

Even with Cowboy, the Lever-action Shotgun comes nowhere remotely close to the DPS of the Riot Shotgun. The Riot Shotgun is one of the highest DPS weapon in the game that doesn't fail miserably against DT. The Lever-action doesn't quite stack up to the Dinner Bell in raw DPS with Cowboy much less the Riot Shotgun.

Late game shotguns are among the best weapons in the entire game.

Unfortunately this is correct. VATS has been nerfed when it comes to distance shooting.

My intelligence didn't start at 10, it started at 9 as well as my luck. I immediately ran to the strip, got 2k worth of caps on my way there, won over 4kin the casinos. I then ran to the New Vegas Medical Clinic and got the implants. I was level 2.
