Building your library.

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 11:16 pm

One of my favorite things to do, as strange as it might sound, is to collect all the books I can. It is my goal to get every single one. I am keeping a running list on my laptop next to me while I play so I know whether or not I have a book already when I find it in the world somewhere. If I don't have it, I snatch it. The only problem for me is none of the houses provide enough space for all the books in the game. I suppose I'll have to store some in chests and other containers.

For those that collect and read books like me, what is your system for organization? Since we can now put our books on shelves easier, how to you keep them in order? Do you just put them in alphabetical order or do you use some other method of filing? I want to have bookshelves of biographies, histories, "how-to's", etc.

I realize many of you might not be as obsessive compulsive as me, but surely I'm not alone.

I collect the books too, and the only workable system I've found is to put your favorite books for display on the shelf and cache the rest in a chest.

Yup. That's what I do. When I have more books, and a house with more bookshelves (which house has the most, by the way??), I'll sort them according to my favorite.

Currently, Journals, Notes and Bounty letters go in the left nightstand next to the bed in my Whiterun house. Doubles and books I'm not big on displaying go into the right nightstand.

I'm trying to find all four argonian accounts, I have 1, 2 and 4 right now. I just put them in a stack on my bed side table, as for all the othe books, I just keep them in either the bookshelves or a chest.

I cant manage to put books on the bottom shelves of my two bookcases, only on the top shelf. Is it possible to put them on the bottom shelf, and if so how? I also love collecting books (and also have a list of one's I have :) and am bothered that I can only display so few.

Bibliophile here too. Unfortunately I don't own a house :sadvaultboy: but I am the Arch Mage :intergalactic: so they all go in a chest until I scraqe the coin together for a house. Alphabetical order!

I've got the Windhelm house and there are book shelves that can hold 109 books. Right now I have 76. So I'm good but eventually I'll have too many.

Crouch and activate the lower half. :]

I'm only collecting Dwemer books right now. My Orc has an interesting fascination with them.

I'm in the middle of reorganizing my books, probably going to move my collection from Whiterun to Windhelm for the extra space. Right now I use one bookcase for parts of collections (if I have vol. 3,4,7, can't really read them without 1,2,5,6) and journals I've gotten through quests or from out in the world, then another bookcase for books I've actually read. Any books I haven't read get put in a chest until I get to them.

Once I move everything to Windhelm I'll probably just do alphabetical (unless UESP categorizes them by genre) and keep my favourites on a separate bookshelf.

The easiest way I find to activate the bottom shelf is to crouch and take a couple steps back from the bookcase.

These books are so interesting. No other game has this much depth and lore. Love it! I've been reading books for about two hours, ha.
