Buy in Germany, play in English?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 1:23 pm

I am British, and I live in Germany. If I buy Skyrim at a local store, will it work in English on my English-speaking Windows 7 PC?

This goes for anywhere else, too. Plenty of people living in non-English speaking countries would like to play Skyrim in English, I'm sure.

Or do English-speakers have to order Skyrim to be shipped from their nearest English-speaking country, in my case, say, from Amazon.co.uk?

You could just order it in The Netherlands (not sure if that's cheaper, but who knows), or buy it directly in any shop here if you are close to the border.

Yes, although you have to download the other language options via steam. They aren't already included on the disc.

I'm nowhere near Holland, I'm afraid.

I know it would run in German on my English Windows PC, but that's not what I want... I want it to run in English (es soll auf Englisch laufen - ich hasse übersetzte Spiele genauso wie syncronisierte Filme).

In Steam you always have the option to change the language, right click on the game in your library, go to properties, then language and change it. You then download the whole language pack which should be added in the disc in the first place but someone was to lazy to put it in.

No it won't run in English, I live in France and have the same problem. I made the mistake of getting myself a copy of Fallout 3 here and nope, no english. I checked to see if it would be different for Skyrim and the answer was no. So I ordered my copy of Skyrim online from the UK and it was dispatched yesterday.

Or order it from Steam, I was given these instructions to get it in English instead of French...
On Steam, you need to right-click on the game in your library. Choose "Properties", then "Language" and pick the language you want.

I haven't tried that though as I ended up ordering a physical copy. Really it is a nightmare trying to get an English copy of a game everytime a new game is released that I want.

Thank you all for your input. I've seen that the UK price (including shipping) is some 10 euros below the German price and the download price anyway, and I can imagine that download speed will be pretty slow once I get home as that is when California wakes up, so maybe I'll wait for shipment from the UK - there's no hurry.
