Tell me, does your dad want to buy you Skyrim for a specific reason? Does he ever mention the Turner Diaries or White Nationalism? Do you like wearing a white sheet and a white hood? Because that's where your headed with this game.

Yes people can make single quests and entire questline and almost anything you can think of.

BUT do not buy a PC for Skyrim alone it is not worth it especially unmodded without essentails such as SkyUI. If your dad is going to buy a PC make sure he is interested in other titles already out or upcoming.

Such as but not limited too that PC is pretty great for is.

-Planetside 2
-Guild Wars 2
-Tribes Ascend
-Battlefield (every PC available title outdoes consoles predecessors or form)
-Witcher 1/2
-Minecraft
-Arma 3 (if your dad is a simmy guy..)

Skyrim doesn't break any ground on PC it is literally as much as a port as it can be and only offers mods as a benefit which is an acquired taste and not for everyone.

Some of the mods are really great and add a lot of replay value. But IMO an even better reason to use PC are the community patches. Bethesda has never managed to fix all the bugs in their games so modders pick up the slack and fix the bugs that Bethesda misses. Whether or not that seems important to you will likely depend on whether or not you have lost an entire game save to a bug. And yes, people can and do make quests with the creation kit, though it can be difficult to do. The kit is a little bugged right now, but that problem should be fixed before summer I think.

There were mods for Oblivion, that literally could have been their own games. I think that's all that needs to be said about this subject.

Yes, New Vegas had some of the best quest/companion mods i've ever played. Like the one when the companion had a teddy, Veronica?
New Vegas Bounties was awesome to.

If you like Skyrim on x-box chances are you will like it on pc as well. Just make sure your father and you do the research on what you need in a pc, to not only play the game, but put the mod's on that you may want to put in. Nothing like finding out that the brand spanking new equipment you just spent $$$$ on won't do exactly what you want it to do. The pc forum can probably help you out alot more in that area.

PC is worth it.

Here is a mod to keep an eye on: http://www.andoran.com/en/

I'd hold off a few months for Ivy Bridge [Intel CPU] launch and GPU shortages to subside. AMD's top end needs to drop $100-$150 and will as Nvidia's production catches up. Skyrim isn't that hard to run, but you'll be better equipped down the road. Also, don't skimp on the power supply.

It's absolutely worth it. I made the switch to PC for Fallout New Vegas and have never looked back. I just love it that much more and the mods make the Bethesda games infinitely replayable, but they really are already anyway. If you love them, you won't be sorry. :tes:

A PC is the best gaming tool anyway. Worth to have a semi-updated rig at all times if you enjoy PC games.

Only thing is, do not go down to a random electronics store and buy a premade Dell or something, the price you pay for that compared to what you get is 99% of the times awful. If you know someone who knows a lot about PCs, ask them to help you. Alternatively you can read up yourself. Building a rig that can play relatively new games on medium/high does not have to be expensive at all.

The mods are made by players. This means that some of them are really, really bad. They generally are rare, as people don't bother uploading until they're good.

Then, there are those amazing mods that change the game to exactly what you wanted it to be, and once you've played with them you never want to play any other way again. An example for Oblivion is FCOM:

It's amazing, and mods add SO much to the experience and replayability it's crazy.

My Toshiba Satellite laptop (mid range for laptops) runs Skyrim just fine. My desktop PC was built back in 2008 and it has no problems running Skyrim. The only setting I dial back is "Grass fade" and "Shadow quality". Everything else is maxed.

Due to being mainly targeted for the console market, who's systems are several years old now, you don't have to go crazy building a PC to play this game. Any well optimized PC built in the last five years should do just fine.

/agree with all the above

Mods rock the Skyrim world, in my opinion. Bug fixes, much better-looking world, a million and seven improvements just waiting for you to join the wonderful world of PC. Don't know what kind of budget your dad has for your upcoming PC, but I hope he doesn't just snag a cheap one for you. Skyrim works best with a faster multicore CPU and plenty of video card oomph... while it will be playable with a weaker machine, it won't look that great or perform very well. Promise to do the yardwork until you're 30, if he buys you one of these... http://www.falcon-nw.com/desktops/mach-v

Or something closer up in that neighborhood, anyways ;-)

Wow. Conspiracy theorist of the month. You might want to loosen your tinfoil hat just a little there, champ. It's obviously cutting off the circulation to your brain. :bonk: :bolt:

You can get some hardware advice about PC specs for Skyrim http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1350063-unofficial-will-my-pc-run-skyrim-thread-58-w-hardware-guide/.

And browsing our http://www.gamesas.com/forum/183-skyrim-mods/ will give you an idea of the types of mods that are already available.
