Call of Juarez : Gunslinger

So, I must start by saying the entire Call of Juarez series never really registered on my radar. There always seemed to be something "eh" about the titles I came across in the past. But I'm a western fan and seeing it in the Steam spotlight rotation over and over got me to thinking. Of course, I don't have a lot of game-time these days so even at $15 dollars I didn't think I was going to get it until they decided to do something you don't see often in the industry anymore - they released a demo.

After playing it, I decided to buy it, and I have to say as far as pure enjoyment / interest goes, Gunslinger is definitely going to rest neatly in one of my "Top 5 Games of 2013" slots, though probably just 5th unless there's some seriously spectacular additions that come out of nowhere.

The narrative, the voices, the gameplay, the interestingly quirky way certain sections are modified on the fly based on "corrections" made by the narrator all just kind of come together into this oddly endearing experience I didn't see coming. Anyone else give it a shot yet?

Is there an open world aspect to it or is it just a storyline with a few extra game modes

No real open world aspect, but for an FPS the levels are rather open with a few routes and ways to approach (almost) everything in Story mode. Then if you just want to be a run-and-gun cowboy you can fire up Arcade mode for Western themed FPS goodness, and if you like the slowed-time dueling minigame that shows up during the story mode, that's a mode in and of itself as well.

I played it. Thought it was terrible just like the other ones.

That's fair. As with all venues of entertainment, I think "your mileage may vary" is a worthy disclaimer.

If it wasn't made by Rockstar Games, Jack isn't going to like it.

I have always had an interest in the CoJ, not just because I strongly love western games, but it's unique from others considering it's an FPS. I've never really played any of them besides the demo for Bound in Blood but I am tempting to get Gunslinger.
