Calm down, give it a chance.

It's sickening hearing everyone hate on the game before we've even seen any info, tbh.
  • It's not developed by BGS, so you do not have to call them sell-outs.
  • It's developed by reputable people with lots of online development experience.
  • It's set a thousand years before the events of earlier games, which is probably because ( a ) it would restrict them too much by setting it in a time frame where we all knew what was going on already and had our own perceptions of what the world should be like, and ( b ) they might want to disconnect the plot and events of TESO (You heard it here first, folks) from the single-player games. Because of this, you need not worry about your precious lore, nor of the efforts of your characters.
  • If you're not a fan of MMOs; either don't play it and don't worry about it - or try it out and see what it's like when it does release.
  • There's nothing wrong with the concept of MMOs - a lot of them just happen to have some serious design flaws. Bethesda Softworks CARE about the TES franchise an do not want to see it spoiled. I'm sure they even have Todd Howard as some sort of helping little elf popping in and out of the office to make sure everything is concise with TES philosophy.
  • In short: don't worry, don't bash - just wait and see.

This needs to be stickied. Bravo, OP!

Seriously, it needs to be stickied. This is good "Read here first" thread for veterans or new players.

I applaud your post.

I just hope this TESO will try something new instead of re-using the same old materials we've seen in MMOs in the past years.
A return to the roots, like in Ultima Online would be preferable. An MMO where you can progress in the world as a lumberjack, fisherman, animal tamer not just some damn warrior.

If you're not a fan of MMOs, either don't play it and don't worry about it, or try it out and see what it's like when it does release.

And if you are a TES fan that will play this because of it being TES...then just deal with it...ignore that Argonian named "Godzillaraza Eatyou" and it won't effect your immersion that former titles offered you lovingly...don't want to powerlevel and instead explore the world of Nirn ...well how every unprogressive of you. Don't you know there is a min/max you have to meet so the MMO majority takes you at least somewhat seriously?

Of over 12 years of MMORPG experience and 10 years of TES freedom when I get tired of other gamers...again, I say no.

We're on the same page Mojo. I'm hang'n back with a wait and see attitude toward the game but I'm sure it won't interfere with BGS supporting Skyrim or any future single player game. I'll probably try it. If it's good? Great! If not? I won't play it. It's not the end of all things.
The only thing that I really want to know is if it will be subscription based or not. If there's a sub then I won't be buying into it.

Yes, the MMO will give fans things about TES that they've asking for for years. Multiplayer, other provinces, no invisible walls, a constantly updated world.

Why are you simply assuming that ZOS will make the same design decisions as other developers? Give them a chance to prove themselves to you before you go completely berserk and throw everything nasty you've got at them. They are hard working professionals who (more than likely) love TES every bit as much as you do.

I won't throw my money at them before I see some info, but I am certainly open to the idea. BGS can continue with our beloved single-player series and ZOS could offer that persistent kick which lasts through the years with new content every year or so and interesting communities to keep the game fun.

For instance, there could be rules that make sure you can't just name your character 'Legolaslol', reward-systems which encourage roleplay (or at least discourage adolescent behaviour), and awesome single-player features out in the world that are meant for you alone.

Personally, I would love the ability to get a little home for myself, find a wife, get a kid: and as my first character grows old and expires, the kid has grown up to become my new character. I'll have my own little graveyard and family tree and everything.

TESO was just announced. You can hardly critique constructively as of now. Express concern, of course, but for now it's just battle between optimists and pessimists.

ZOS is a brand new company, so there is no way of judging how well they will handle things.

My opinion comes from the announcement...not what I hope they will accomplish...

But for hopes: I hope they do it right...do it like no other MMORPG has done it before (because in order for it to feel TES then it will be very different from the MMO standards)...

And you'll know it when I actually go berserk and start throwing everything nasty....No sir, my opinion is not nasty....yes sir, I appreciate the hard work any game studio does that is worthy of admiration from its fans.

I am not a Fan of MMO's. For a variety of reasons, not all of which have to do with the actual MMO games that I have played (some were good, some were not).

However, I have always wondered what a TES game would be like as an MMO. I just never wanted TES to become an MMO series. So, it is good that this is an additional gaming experience, not just the next chapter. If nothing else, it will be like the TES Mobile games that came out, something to do as a diversion. It could also be a great game in and of itself. However, until it comes out, or there is a beta, I can't say if I will like it or not.

Hating mmo's blindly is more of a fad than mmo's themself.

Also, most people bashing this game are doing so because they think its made by bethesda and that it will effect TES6, which is wrong.

Seriously, it's a great setting for an MMO and it means nothing for the production of the main series. I'm very interested, and can't wait to see what the game will be like. It could be huge.

Yea man, all the hate is irrational. A: Game isn't out, or even previewed, do we don't know what it's going to be like or how good it'll be. B: More money for Beth = bigger an better games. C: THE GAME ISN'T OUT YET PLEASE CHILL!! :)
