Camera Controls - Shift+Mouse - Hold shift and use the mouse to orbit around a selection
http://www.creationkit.com/Creation_Kit_Interface_Cheat_Sheet

sooo...
what is wrong with the camera controls? i mean, yeah, you can adapt to most of it, even though they are kind of unusual, but why is the only way to freely rotate your camera orbiting around your selection? why is there no "rotate around yourself" option?

i played around with the CK yesterday and tried to edit something into hjerim. it took me like 15 minutes to place a simple door in the small corner on the opposite site of the alchemy/enchanting room, just because it took me ages to actually get my camera there in an appropriate angle.

or is it just me?

what du you guys think of the camera control? discuss!

Rotating around a selection is a really good way of well.. rotating :P

If you don't select anything, you will rotate around yourself.

While looking around Whiterun in CK, I hadn't selected anything (which I confirmed by pressing D), but the camera rotated around some arbitrary point instead of itself.
Plus, it would be nice if you could force it to rotate around itself every time (or maybe a different button for that). Currently it's difficult to navigate around e.g. cities when they have a billion triggers which have their origins a mile away (thus making selecting objects and therefore looking around difficult - this wouldn't matter if deselecting everything also cleared the rotation origin (which it doesn't occasionally seem to do for me for whatever reason)).

i kind of wished they used 3DS Max style for the default camera controls, seeing as that seems to be the 3d editor package they used to create the assets, but i guess in time it will be second nature

Go into "Preferences" and poke around with the camera view settings there. I had to tweak mine a little. The "Gizmo" settings can probably be changed to make the camera move more to your liking.

Would Bethesda consider adding 3D mouse support? I use a 3DConnexion space explorer and it makes all the difference to my Solidworks modelling. Seriously - navigating/modelling in 3D is a different ballgame with the right tool.
