I can't adopt because I don't have a children's room?

I tried adopting a child from Riften to my homestead I made (Heljarchen Hall), and when I was talking to her it said I didn't have a special room for the child. I did make a bedroom in the west wing, and it has a full bed, and 2 beds that say they're owned. I also have two more beds on the second floor that aren't owned. Do I have to do anything special before I can adopt, because I can't figure out if I'm missing something or if it's a bug.

Nevermind! Apparently there was one chest I was missing because I built everything in that room now, and she lets me adopt now. If anyone else has this problem make sure you have the child's chest :)

Just wanna point out that needing the bedroom wing to adopt is an unfortunately popular misconception. Once you build the small bed(s) and dresser in the upper level of the Main Hall, you'll be able to adopt. The bedroom wing is optional.

To be honest, if I could get my hands on the architect I would rip him a new one with a greatsword. Descriptions in the 'build your house' manual would be sort of sensible thing to have, just so we don't end up with a bunch of doubled up or crappy rooms...hell, would have taken all of someone's smoke break to list what is in each room option.

Architects deal with building houses, not furnishing them. There is nothing but the workbench in each room when you build the house. It is a build your house manual, not house and garden or a home furnishing manual. The name of each wing seemed pretty descriptive to me.

Have you actually tried that? Because the upstairs beds are supposed to be servant quarters. And you need to build a child bed and chest, before you can adopt.

My two children sleep on those beds from time to time.
