Can anyone confirm that the AI notices opened doors?

I was just testing this out a bit and the AI didn't respond for the longest time. Eventually, though, an NPC decided to walk through the doorway after saying something along the lines of, "I'm going to go over here" though I'm not sure if it was in actual response to the door being left open. If not, I am incredibly surprised that the devs didn't add this. It just seems so obvious. I've run into other glaring problems as well such as NPCs not even responding to coming across a broken window. I just find it so annoying that you can be so reckless when sneaking and not having to worry about leaving a trail. It's quite honestly taking a bit of a toll on my enjoyment of the game, unfortunately. Granted, you're supposed to hide bodies, but that's really the only thing that you have to worry about when leaving a room as far as I've noticed. I'm only in the second mission, though, so I'm hopeful that enemies become more observant.

EDIT: This is while playing on very hard mode, by the way.

I don't think they notice. I open doors right in front of guards looking at the door and they don't notice. Doors are just cover for not being seen.

I've opened plenty of doors right into some guard on the other side, and they didn't seem to react as long as they didn't see me.

Hm, I can't imagine this being too difficult to implement. Maybe the devs thought gamers would get too aggravated if the AI noticed such things?

I'm surprised that other stealth games don't have this as well. The only game that comes to mind off the top of my head would be Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (haven't played the older ones so I wouldn't know)

Thief 3 had guards notice the opening of doors. They also noticed missing loot, blown out candels etc. It was pretty cool

It only happened to me once but when I closed a door a guard saw it and was like "what the hell" then came running. Ever since then I've been more careful.

It doesn't happen too often, but when you lift a key off a guard sometimes they pat themselves down and say something along the lines of "I can't believe I lost it".

It's totally beyond me why AI in games have seemingly decreased in quality over the years. It's the sole reason why I'm rather hyped for the Last of Us.

I would say because of too many people used to a more "casual" gaming style and complaining that the AI made things too difficult.

Yeah, I suppose that's the obvious answer :/.
