So can bows be crafted?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 6:12 pm

I'm level 10 Have fooled around with crafting a little, but still don't see bows as an option. Tell me this is in there (unless it isn't). thanks.

Should be. Not sure if the early crafting options include bows (no, there isn't a leather bow). I did craft my daedric bow though.

I haven't seen anything either. Nor fletching arrows. You can improve bows (using the grindstone), but I don't think you can make them from scratch.

Man. Archery seems a bit slighted in this game. Sure they added a few new combat options, but no death animations and no crafting? A shame.

Well, glad to hear there some crafting, but I don't see why we can't craft regular long bows with firewood and leather or something.

As far as no death animations go... shoot a guy from 30m away and watch him drop before he even knew his life was in danger. Then sneak up to the body and crow at the arrow through his eye, or right between the eyes, or right in the heart, or right in the nuts. The Havoc body flop is different every time.

bows can be crafted, you just aren't gonna be able to do it without putting some points into blacksmithing.

Slight side note but related - can staves be crafted and then enchanted ourselves or must they be found only in dungeons

Oh really? Great news thank you. I was wondering why I was even bothering with crafting at all since everything I can make seems to be available in the game world anyway - I could be wrong as I haven't gotten far into blacksmithing at all.

Thanks.

I can craft Elven bows, you have to put points past steel armor to make bows.

Is it worth blacksmith them though? What's the advantage of doing it if these items can be found in the world?

Don't think they can be crafted. I got 100 smithing/enchanting, and all associated perks, but still nothing.

The key thing would be if you can disenchant staves, and I don't think thats possible either.

Everything can be found in the world, the question "Is do you want to search for it and possibly never find it, or craft it whenever you have the materials/skill points?" That's a question you have to answer yourself. You might never find what your looking for in Skyrim, so they give you an option to make it yourself.

With the necessary point investment, the stuff you can craft is stronger than the stuff you can find.

Alright, I should have been more direct in my post...

You can craft bows. You can at least craft glass, elven, ebony, daedric, and dwemer bows.

I am uncertain what skills allow for crafting of anything less than that.

You cannot fletch arrows. This makes me rather sad, as it means daedric arrows are prized commodities early on.

As far as I can tell, you can't craft staves (can't disenchant them, so you can't enchant them, and you can't craft the base item).

You must be doing something wrong. Bows can certainly be crafted. I've made elven, glass, dwarf, and ebony bows.

If you have high blacksmithing + enchanted clothing to better blacksmithing, you can greatly improve the bows you made.

What kind of death animations would you need for archery? With swords, you get impalings, beheadings, etc. With archery you get an arrow in the head, there's nothing really special to animate here. I have, however, had some pretty spectacular kills using my bow without the need for special animations, like when I one-shot guys off of cliffs.

In mount and blade, sometimes when you stick someone in the head with an arrow they grab their face as they go down. Which makes sense, as, you probably wouldn't instantly die from an arrow in the head.

That actually depends where in the head.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing a slow motion arrow to the face every once in a while.
