I Can't Buy Breezehome, and Lydia Doesn't Exist. :-

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:01 am

I just started my 5th character in Skyrim, and I have a bunch of mods installed. I'm not sure if one or all of them are the problem, or if I just need to continue doing Whiterun quests. I am the Thane, and have the Axe of Whiterun, and Lydia has been assigned as my Housecarl. BUT, She isn't showing up, and I can't get the steward to give me the option to buy Breezehome. Is it probably the mods I have installed, or do I have to complete all of the "help" quests in Whiterun? It's really annoying me... :(

Has the Jarl told you have permission to have a home there?

If so and he`s given you Lydia sounds like a mod issue to me screwing things up.

Yes, he gave me permission to buy a house, and said he was giving Lydia to me as a Housecarl, but she isn't showing up and I can't even buy the house. I thought about uninstalling the game and reinstalling, and then just using minimal mods, as I can't seem to figure out which one is causing the problem. I did figure out one mod problem, though. I had colorful torches and it caused the priest in the hall of the dead in Whiterun to be gone. So I uninstalled that one, and he showed up in the hall of the dead, dead. I had to resurrect him...

Here is my suggestion save your game infront of the stewart. Then reload with all mods off. If you can buy the house you know its a mod conflict. Then keep reloading turning on a few mods every time. Eventually you'll find out which one is causing the problem.

If I was you, I'd start with house mods, if you have any of them active.

I'd guarantee it's the mods.

I've been chopping and changing them due to unforeseen problems...most of which just don't make sense. I put a basemant in Breezehome with one...went off somewhere on my own, and fast travelled back to Whiterun to find Lydia, my goat, my horse and a chicken pet I had in the basemant....ditch mod, reload earlier save.

Well, like we said before to new users, it`s not always as simple as just dropping them in, especially when you start to get more than 5 or so Mods. It`s very easy to get addicted and before you know it you have 50. Mods are not always error free, remember, it`s just ordinary people making these out of their SPARE time for free.

In cases like this you MUST read the Readme and check on other people`s experiences on the Nexus comments or be ready for a broken game and a world of hurt. I have rejected many Mods because I could see they might cause potential conflicts.

p.s. I especialy avoid Mods with no Readme or explanation.

Too true BW...I've put comments on nearly all the mods I've used, and a lot of decent feedback, and it's only a few who have either corrected the bug, or discussed it on their threads. If a mod appears to be drop and forget, I am really hesitant about it.

Yep. I`m always keen to explain any problems and give praise in the comments section of the Mod, just to help the modder and support them- and also help prospective new users.

I think i'll try the suggestion to turn off all mods and try to buy the house, and then maybe I'll do a one by add method. I've already cut out a bunch that I wasn't happy with anyway. Hopefully I can get it sorted. :-/
