Can't close 'Favorites' menu with same key - bug?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 11:37 am

It seems that even if you map the Favorites menu to a key of your choice, that key will only open the menu and can't close it - which means you can only close it using tab. Not sure if this is a bug, but can't believe that having to use 2 seperate keys to open/close one menu is WAI (almost defeats the object of having a quick menu button if you can't use the same button to close it).

Obviously would work so much smoother in combat if you could use the same button to open/close the menu.

Not a bug I believe. TAB is used to close everything it appears.

Well though I love this game, that seems to be be nonsensical UI design if that's the case (and unnecessarily fiddly in combat). Oh well.

Personally I view that as a feature. I wouldn't want to be trying to hit the favorites key in a critical situation where I have very little time to do what I need to do, and accidentally open, then immediately re-close the window before making my selection, because I had mistakenly hit the q button (or whatever it's mapped to for you) a second time.

I have, personally, no problem with using the tab key to close it. As the other poster said, it's UI consistency, which is actually good in UI design - minimizing surprises for people (although, obviously you were surprised, so you can't ever completely remove surprises), and it means I can never accidentally close it when I'm just trying to open it.

I see that logic, but in other games that have a 'pause action' button, I can't recall ever having a problem accidentally unpausing by hitting the button twice.

Personally would prefer not to have to exit via tab partly because it's on the opposite side of the keyboard from all my movement keys (I always use cursor keys rather than WASD), unlike space (which I've mapped to the favorites menu) - not being ready to move when you exit the menu can be fatal in some situations. Still I guess it encourages you not to use the favorites menu when you've got an enemy in your face!
