It's the weirdest thing. I was able to before, but now I can't. I even have an enchantment perk. I have learned the enchantments, have the weapons and several filled soul gems (common, lesser and petty) and I can't enchant even a dagger because it always tells me that I have no soul gems. Now this is with an Altmer mage. My last game was a Breton mage. She was able to enchant then poof no more enchanting because it always said there were no soul gems even though I had a filled one of every kind in my inventory. Is this a bug. I'll head to the mages college and see if I can do those quests and get enchanting back. It's so strange. I was able to enchant armor but not weapons.

did you try restarting the game, or loading an older save?

Maybe try dropping all your soul gems, attempt an enchant, pick up a soul gem (confirm filled) and try enchanting again? Sounds like a most unpleasant mystery.

This is a brand new game. I just started a new character. Just got to Whiterun.

This isn't going to be helpful, but are you sure you're selecting the soul gem during the enchanting process?

It's blacked out which is telling me that I don't have filled soul gems when I do. So no, that didn't help but you tried. I posted on the PC troubleshooting forum. I tried the drop soul gems and picked them up, they're definitely filled. Bought them from the Whiterun mage and used his enchanter. Oh well, we'll see what pc troubleshooting has to say.
