Can't get Rage work properly

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 7:19 am

Hi,
I've purchased Rage today. I installed it immediatly and updated it. I've installed the AMD 11.10 Catalyst and now the game starts.
The first videos and the menu works fine. When I start a campaign, the video with the asteroid works fine, but the next doesn't. It shows a video for half a second, then it lags for 5 seconds, then it contiues for half a second...
I've tried personal settings (Rageconfig.cfg) and custom starting options in Steam and it did not change anything.
Please help me!
My System:
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2,2GHz
4GB Ram
ATI Radeon 4500 @2279mB
Windows 7 64 Bit

*Newest Graphic Card driver*

I wouldn't mess with configs. I had the same problem, which they say is related to dual core CPU's.

Go into your steam library page, right click Rage...got to properties...set launch options... insert "+jobs_numThreads 0" without the quotes.

I think it limits the number of cpu threads. Or it may change how they are used.

The fix was posted here a day after I bought the game a few days after release, and had the horrible stuttering. It was the only thing I needed to modify.

It's how the game distributes the workload across the CPUs. It defaults to '2', which means when you have 2 cores, both of those will be fully loaded with operations, along with the operations for feeding data to the GPU and updating the actual game. This causes stalls, and therefore should be set to a lower number than the actual amount of CPUs.
