Can i get in the Fort? : Fallout: New Vegas

is it possible i haven't discovered it yet but i know where it is, i started a new game. If it is possible to get to the Fort swimming can u guys please give accurate directions

Swimming is impossible. You need to go by barge.

I actually asked this question earlier, and the answer I got is, "No."

I guess you have to advance the main plot/main quest, in order to get an invitation to the fort by the Caesar.

Then you have to take the barge/boat from Cottonwood Cove. It's tied to one of the docks there .

I also was trying to access the Fort without getting to a certain point in the main quest line; I could not find the trigger for the barge. I eventually went ahead and tracked down Benny in New Vegas. I was able to get an invitation and go to the Fort, so my answer is, yes, you need to follow the main quest to that point.
