Can't hear Dragons shouting

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 8:12 am

Hi all. I recently turned subtitles on, and realised that when fighting dragons they sometimes say Yol, Fo, etc. However, while I can see the subtitles when they do this, all I can ever hear is the blasting sound of fire or frost.

I also saw that the first dragon you fight is meant to say "Dovahkiin, No!" upon death, yet that was also silent for me.

Is this a known audio bug, or is there anything I can do about it?

If dragons don't actively use the dragon language, wouldn't that also raise some eyebrows? The absence (or subtlety) of dragon voices is peculiar, but I wouldn't consider it a bug since they are essentially using single-word shouts. Those dragons that use more complex shouts do so very noticeably. Still, it is a mystery why Bethesda put these in as subtitles and not as audible elements. In many ways, playing with subtitles on gives you more information than you need. For example, without subtitles on you wouldn't know that the dragon that destroys Helgen is Alduin. That kind of information is unnecessary. Last I checked, dragons don't wear nametags.

However, I know that audio files for such dragon shouts exist, as there are mods that let the player character use the dragon voiced shouts instead of default. They're simply not audible in game for me.
