Can't Help People of Falkreath?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 2:19 pm

So i was told by the jarl of Falkreath, after slaying the initial bandits, that to become Thane of Falkreath (to get new housecarl), i have to help his people. Only problem is whomever i help does register at all. Did the Lod Daedric quest, hasnt registered...helped Valdr and that didnt do anything either. Any solutions?

Try chopping firewood for Hert. From UESP:

The favor counter can get stuck at 2/3, regardless of which quests you do.
  • Chop firewood for http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Hert and the third will be completed.

I killed them in the DBH questline. Mine is stuck at 0/3. I thought helping Valdr would raise it, but it hasnt. Only thing left is the Hircine quest.

Did the Valdr quest update correctly in your journal? I was going over the bugs on UESP to see what the problem might me. That quest should count toward one of the 3.

Here is a link with a list of the quests you can do for the people of Falkreath:

Hmmm, thats a Good question. I havent checked the journal to see if it was completed, but he gave me his dagger and i also saw him back at Falkreath where he thanked me again. A Man's Best Friend was also completed, but no change in status. Im thinking this may be happening cause quite awhile ago i refused the Jarl's request to get him mead. After Dling Hearthfire he gave me the bandit quest though.

Here is the quote from UESP on that particular bug:

"After completing the quest and receiving the dagger the quest may not update in your journal, causing an arrow to appear above Valdr in the Inn but no quest speech option."

It is odd that A Daedra's Best Friend did not count when it should have.

Have you done Ill Met by Moonlight?

I was trying to avoid ill met by moonlight being that ive been a vampire for last 80 hrs or so of gameplay. Im starting to think this all comes from turning down the Jarl's first request. This never happened before to me

You might be right. It says that Rare Gifts is supposed to be required to get the bandit mission from the Jarl. Did you turn down his request before Hearthfire came out? The game and the DLC sound like they might be at odds with each other. HF forces the bandit quest out of the Jarl when you normally aren't supposed to be able to get it.

A Daedra's best friend didnt work for me either, nor the one where you give the hunter outside the cave a healing potion and clear the cave for/ with him.

What worked for me was picking and giving cabbages to the farmer in Falkreath, delivering the ashes to the priest of Arkay and stealing the note for the former jarl.
Good luck

I am also having a problem becoming a thane in Falkreath.

I am already thane of both Dawnstar and Morthal and have built both houses.
I have not done any Dark Brotherhood quests
I have helped the Mage fella get his book. I have done the hunter Deadric ring quest.
I have done the Deadric dog quest and answered the smith.

Neither the Jarl nor his steward give me the option to buy land?

I cannot be a thane yet as I haven't received a housecarl

Been ages since I did it, but now you helped the daedric princes helping some who live in Falkreath might get it? Chop wood, pick wheat/cabbages, deliver ashes? I do not ever remember chopping wood, but I brought wood from the saw mill, so presumably you could. I always did the letter stealing for Dengier, and the vampire hunt. And of course the incredibly dangerious getting the Jarl his drink, as well as all the daedric ones. Which Jarl are you dealing with Kraigus Maximus?

I've worked it out. Someone has posted in the general discussion section a list of quests that if still active they will prevent the Jarl offering his quests

It was the Jarl of Falkreath (the first one)
