Can I kill Samuel?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:12 am

I am currently going through a high chaos playthrough of the game, but planning on also maintaining stealth for the most part (bar one or two incidents). However, I read that in high chaos playthroughs Samuel later betrays you by alerting every enemy on the Kingsparrow Island. Is it possible to kill him before he does this?

EDIT: I'm half asleep, which is why the title is wrong. Sorry.

Yea, get out of the boat and sleep dart/kill him.

To the above poster: You CAN kill him at this point.

Hah, I just used his gunshot to my advantage...Hide and wait for the guards to approach.

EDIT: Oh and Nate? Plenty of people care about spoilers. And you didn't really answer the question, since he's talking about a high chaos playthrough.

I thought so too. You must be able to kill him before he shoots his flare/gun.

LOL, I killed him this play through (high chaos) because of how he talked to me. Soon as I got out of the boat he got darted in the head. Talk nasty to me and order me out of the boat will you! It should be obvious I'm a ruthless, murderous, possibly psychotic, rat bastard. Why would you bad mouth and insult me? Now I'm really glad I killed him.

Yes you can kill him on the last mission, when i first finished the game i was playing lethal killing everyone, then just before he drops you on the island he says something how tou turned into one of them and he would wish you good luck but he would be lying. After he warned the guards and about to drive off i shot his ass. And then you see Corvo visiting his grave on he last clip just before the credits. However none of this happens if you play the non-lethal way.

Yea, I LOVED that minor difference was accounted for.

Also, tried to set him on fire. It didn't work.

My first playthrough was high chaos, and I love that they included details like this. When he was giving that speech as he dropped you off I thought, oh he's upset, but why should I care. Then he made it real by warning the guards. I was quick on the draw though, and if you turn around fast enough you can actually kill him with the sword. It give you one of those cool slow motion stabs too (like with the Pendleton twins). It was actually really brutal, you stab him up from below his chin through the top of his head.

Something that confused me is that I had high chaos, but Samuel didn't betray me. He just told me off and left.

Huh?

There is room for "middle chaos" decisions as well. Just the ending is two directional.

Another reason I prefer playing nice. Samuel's a crusty ol' coot, but I like him.

I guess I got the "middle chaos" ending, too, since Samuel said he was disappointed in Corvo and would never see him again, but no warning shot.

Yea, I loved that difference between high and low chaos. I was dikeing around with the area map and the potions when i heard him say something along the lines of i'm gonna let them know you are coming. I instantly thought oh [censored], turned around and saw he had his gun in the air. I raced over and stabbed him, but it was too late. But as to the OP, you can kill him before he shoots his gun, or you can just hide and sneak around the guards when they come, or even just book it before the guards get there.

It's high chaos, but not massively high...

Maybe its because fish ate his corpse after I killed him. But I didnt see that grave scene.
I also killed him purely becuase I found his attitude annoying, I killed lots of people sure. But they attacked me damnit, and then he acts all superior because of it.

Can you -really- justify killing all those people (well, if you were as violent as I was when I was on High Chaos) when you have abilities to get passed and spare them instead?

I had the halfway in-between ending.
Spoiler
Samuel said something about being a bit disappointed and then he told Corvo quite tersely to get out of his boat! I was shocked because, up until this point he'd been his usual amiable self. He didn't shoot a flare but just drifted off in his boat. I'd played the first half of the game causing low chaos, but it all went a bit wrong in the later levels, meriting a high chaos for the last three missions. So, not bad enough to get the worst ending, just his disappointment expressed.
