Can't launch Skyrim >_<

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 8:31 am

Hi,

I installed and played TES5 Skyrim the past few days, but suddenly I recieved "error code 51" when I tryed to start the game.
I checked through all the programms listed here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

I have installed none of them except for Avast Antivirus, which I tryed to turn off.
I reinstalled steam & skyrim twice, the error still exists.

Before the error I didn't change any software on my computer.

Are there any suggestions to help me fix the problem?
Starting the game without the launcher is no good idea, since I cant make the video setup :-/

The Steam support does not seem to be able to solve the problem anytime soon, I didn't even get an answer to my support request...

Regards,
Co0n

Hello,

sorry, can't help you, except saying that I have exactly the same problem: the launcher started smoothly yesterday, but now does nothing. The game starts just fine if I run TESV.exe from the Explorer.

Any advice?

I got an error stating that I may have played on another computer. Okay-not possible. So I locked steam to only my computer. Now it doesn't even give me that error. It did say something about a cloud problem before, and when I tried to restart Steam in offline mode it kept popping up a box saying it was finishing Steam cloud sync. It had better work dang it!

Patch Patch Patch, we all need a Patch, I spent 60 bucks on this game and what I got is a 6 hour continuous headache and a shiny new coaster and I got about 30 minutes of play, now all I get to do is turn the game on and watch the logo come up and then it freezes my whole pc up and I have to hard crash. I am soooooo glad I wasted another 60 dollars on a game that was not ready for the market. These reasons are why Guild Wars isnt putting out GW2 yet, they know they have fixes and plan on a smooth launch so no release date yet.

Thank you for the reply :goodjob: It was i) helpful and ii) quick. After verifying the cache and restarting my PC the launcher launched again. I only had to reconfigure the graphics settings.

No problem, glad your playing again ;) it helped me once before as even the smallest file being deleted can cause massive problems. It just takes 1 missing dll file to stop the game from starting.
