Can I Be a mage, warrior and a thief at the same time? (no m

I love this game because it's really interesting but... I have a problem, when I'm playing as a mage I want to use sword and shield sometime, when i play as a warrior i want to sneak properly, and when i am a thief I want to use magic... I can't play on character archetype more than one hour, after that i want to change my play style and I go to another one, in fact I made three character so i can change when i'am bored..
My question: can i make a build that use magic, a sword and shield and can sneak and snipe? am i asking more than what the game as to offer? are someone feel like me? are someone already made something like this, an hybrid character?

You can make hybrid characters, but you're generally going to be weak across all areas if you don't choose to specialize in at least one or two skill sets.

But if you're thinking of having a character who's strong in One-Hand, Shield, Destruction, Heavy Armor, Alteration, Conjuration, Sneak, Alchemy, etc.... then no. You can always level all those things up, but you won't be able to perk them.

You could definitley have a all around build. I don't suggest it. Most people I see have a character doing something that another wouldnt. You could switch off of being what you want to be with one character but it takes away from the variety this game has to offer. One of the most fun things to me is to decide what skills you will use and perk and which you have to go without.

In most rpgs, a jack-of-all-trades is typically a bard. Swords, light armor, some magic, stealth, and a few of your other favorite skills. This game doesn't really have any restrictions under archetype. For example, in Oblivion, I once had a dark elf that was a master at stealth, destruction magic, archery, blade, alchemy, security, light armor, and a little alteration a jack of trades if there ever was once.

You CAN make a "Jack of all Trades" type, but they will not be as strong as a specialized character. They will be OK at lots of things but not GREAT at any. Unless you play them for a very long time and try to level up all of those skills.

Well, my character is a mix of all 3 play styles. Primarily a sneaky archer, he prefers to snipe the enemy from afar and switches to melee when the enemy closes in. He uses magic but mainly the novice & adept level spells as I've not put much points into the schools.
It can be done, but you should focus on one particular play style as the primary one. Otherwise you may have problems later on when the enemies get more powerful.

You can easily be a viable double hybrid, but triple hybrid is stretching it. It's very easy to make a thief-warrior, and get the full enjoyment out of both, if you go one handed (preferably dual wielding). Magic is best left dabbling in all schools. You can definitely train a whole bunch of mage abilities, but you'd be well over the soft cap (lvl 50), and it wouldn't be as fun as just playing a mage.

I'm just impressed that a Playstation 3 could develop freewill, let alone post on a forum. But seriously, being a Jack of all Trades means having average skills all around, and they'd be lower than the skills of someone who specialises.

Mostly I prefer the path of the warrior but that hasnt stopped me joining the DB/ thiefs guild /mage collage and the companions. I do though concentrate on warrior fighting skills/heavy armour and perks but sometimes a blast of high power magic or some sneaking are more useful. If though you want to max out everything in one character then your going to spend a massive amount doing meaningless tasks. You will have to spend time fighting lots of low level enemies to improve your skills to a useful level. Chiefly that's because you will be a jack of all trades and a master of none so when you come up against the tough guys your going to be in trouble. The trick I find is to chouse one path for your character but learn just enough other skills to be useful when the situation calls for it. You after all Dragonborn with powerful dragon blood running in your vains and the greatest warrior of his/her age.

Yes, and it's probably the best build possible as well. You'll one-hit kill everything from sneak attacks and even if you are seen, you can put on an impressive amount of damage (just as much as a full-warrior could). You'd also have super armor and super magic resistance, in addition you can summon atronarchs to fight for you and heal yourself up fast.

Turn the difficulty down and have fun with your Jack. Nothing wrong with the idea. When I play one, I'm going to have an even distribution of perks in all skills.

I totally disagree with the idea that a char cant have all skills at once i am lvl 60 on first char and started off with Heavy Armour,Two-Handed. as i progressed i raised all my other skills so am now able to switch during play to whatever situation arises having completed all Quests, aquired all Daedric artifacts, all Weapons and Armour at max. I store relevent gear for each discipline,Riften-Thief and Stealth,Markarth-Heavy Armour and Two-Handed weapons all the,College of Winterhold-Mage and all the rest is stored in Whiterun. all in all im happy with the setup, and remember the only good Draugh is a dead one.

Afterthought im playing on Xbox 360 so no Mods.

My main character (wood elf) wields a two-handed axe (so no shield) and specialized in sneaking too (high level, no perks). You don't actually NEED perks if you don't want them. They're just awesome and a real help sometimes. It is also specialized in smithing, alchemy and enchantement (with a number of perks in that too) and lockpicking (with a few perks). She also has a few restoration perks. I even have a few archery perks. It works for me! I get most perks for the things I use the most: that's two-handed and archery. What's awesome about this game is that you don't have to stick to one class. You could call my first character a barbarian, but then again... she's not. I did all the quilt quests except for the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guilt with her and the main quest.

My second character is a Khajiit. She is specialized in sneaking, lockpicking, one-handed, blocking, a bit of restoration and speach. I did the Dark Brotherhood Quest and the Thieves Guilt Quest with her and I'm still working on finishing all the Daedrics.

I'm planning on creating a third character who's a mage and uses no weapons (except for the unbound weapons).

But I don't give my characters any restrictions. They can do anything. As long as you focus on a few things, it's fine. Of course, I do think it would be kind of fun to make my next character sell every piece of equipment and only create and enchant her own robes, armour, etc.

Doing different guilds is one thing. You can be archmage with only ever casting one spell. Lesser Ward. Joining the mages college or Thieves Guild isn't the same as playing a mage or thief.

This is possible..... LATE game. Make it to level 70, and to get there you will have to raise multiple skills that are not linked to 100. No you won't have perks in them all, but you'll have perks in the important ones, enchant, destruction or archery, one hand or two hand, alchemy, etc. If you are going to get alchemy or enchant to 100 don't bother with perks in smithing, you can use a potion or enchanted gear to improve anything to legendary without perks.

If you don't want to wait till level 70, I would do a magic oriented assassin. Assassins already use sneak, one hand, and bows. If you want to run in swinging like a warrior go for it, just expect to drink a lot of health potions. Now for the spells I would go either conjuration or illusion. Either would also be great on a vampire assassin.

Use conjuration to cast raise dead on people you have killed which is useful in two ways. 1. helps if you end up in combat. 2. you can(I have) use raise dead to move dead bodies out of obvious places by getting them to follow you then killing them again somewhere more remote.
Use illusion to disrupt your enemy. You also have muffle and invisibility.

my test char was alittle like what your saying, 2h distruction, conjuration, restoration, archery, light armor ( Most of my char's are light it does make it easier to sneak) sneak.

Now other than 2h, distruction and conjuration, I only put perk point's on the bottom. 2h was bottom 5 and center "diamond" , distruction only up the "shock" line.

I think ( char's deleted so I can't check) that enchanting was at 74 with only the bottom perks. Smithing I don't remember but only took the bottom and magic perk.

It can be done, but I would definetly write down which perk's you want to take and when. I goofed a couple times and ended up running fast and screaming like a girl from some of the tougher "bosses"

I did stop playing this char at lvl 43, mostly because I wanted to have the archtypes and see how they work and then do my own thing.

Maximum level is 81. So it seems possible, but you have to plan your perk trees carefully.

You can do it and be super effective at all 3 at 50. Read my link above about how to build it. Enchant Fortify One-Hand and Fortify-Destruction on all items you can.

If you want to make a Jack-of-all-Trades character I would recomend this:

1-Handed: A well rounded melee skill.

Heavy or Light Armor: I would go for heavy to have more warrior elements and sneak wearing robes, but if you want to do both at once I recomend light armor.

Sneak: For sneaking.

Alchemy: Poisons and potions are powerful additions to any character.

Destruction: Ranged offensive magic best used with Impact.

1 optional magic skill

You can do whatever you want. It's your game. Play it the way that is fun for you. If you are looking to roleplay, I can tell you what I do, adn maybe it will give you some ideas for how to make the game more fun for you.

First, I have multiple characters and I play whichever one I am in the mood to play.

I have a Nord warrior that I am roleplaying as Kodlak's nephew, who only uses two handed weapons and heavy armor and never casts any spells of any sort and does not enchant. He will sneak if he absolutely has to, but he is not very good at it and he does not like doing it. Sometimes it amuses him to use a bow, but he views it as more of a toy than a real weapon.

I also have a Khajiit Archer who never uses any melee weapons. If he needs to engage in melee he shows them the business with his claws.

I have a pure mage who uses no weapons and wears robes and relies on magic.

Depending on my mood, I can switch between sneak, magic and melee combat by switching between characters.

I also have a Dunmer nightblade that is more of a jack-of-all trades, but with a roleplaying emphasis. He only uses bound weapons (primarily bow and sword). He supplements his weapon attacks with plenty of magic and sneak (muffle, oakshield, runes, summon familiar and flame atronach, firebolt). He wears heavy armor (with Steed stone) primarily because it looks better on a Dunmer and the elven and glass light armors look too girly for him. He hates the Altmer and kills Thalmor on sight. He has perk points into illusion, conjuration, enchanting, one handed, archery, restoration, block, sneak, and smithing (only two to get Arcane).

He is spread really thin, so he won't get the master perk in very many skills. He has also leveled up so many skills that the monster spawns are pretty challenging. He is at level 40 right now without a single skill at 100, but many skills over 50. If you are looking for a more challenging game, spreading your skills thin can be fun.

If you pump smithing, alchemy and enchanting you don't have to invest heavily in perks to get massive damage, defense, etc. I'm playing a one handed warrior/mage who sneaks and picks locks and I'm doing just fine.

The one downside is that it's a pretty boring way to play the game, as you don't have enough feats to invest in power attacking and you put all your leveling into magic and health and none in stamina. Dragons of all varieties are easy to kill by level 40, but it simply involves popping a couple of potions and then mindlessly wailing on the dragon with a 250+ damage one handed weapon.
