I can't go to Markarth

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 7:39 am

Ok, so I've run into a very major bug. I can't go to Markarth.

So as some of you might know there's a bug with the Quest "The Fornsworn Conpiracy" where your bounty never disappears from Markarth. This didn't use to be problem, as it only meant that the guards would ask me to stop whenever I walked past them.
But now for some reason they have started to walk up to me an start a conversation, as they would during the quest. In this conversation, I can either choose to go to Cidhna Mine, bribe the guard, or kill him. If I choose to go to Cidhna Mine once again, he simply says I'll never see the sunlight again, and then the conversation ends, after which he immediately restarts it. I can't bribe him, and killing him will obviously not solve anything.

WHAT SHOULD I DO!?
Has anyone elsa ran into this? It's pretty serious.

Only way around it for me was to not commit any crime (r at least not get a bounty) while in Markath after the Mine quest.

1. Don't fast travel to the city, travel to somewhere close, then move on foot towards the area. The guards can be at the mill, farm and mine nearby as well.

2. When you spot a town guard, immediately sneak and open the console (~), it's important that you do this BEFORE you have been spotted.

3. With the console open and the game paused, click the guard to select him as the active object, then type "paycrimegold" (without quotes).

4. You may lose the gold equivalent to your bounty value, or you may not, it's not consistent.

This worked for me and has allowed me to continue several quest-lines that had been broken by this bug.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: you can avoid this by not siding with Madanach and killing him in the mine, or not joining in the battle after you leave the mine. Either way there aren't any consequences afterwards by killing him as far as I can tell as the quest ends there and the forsworn will still attack you wherever they are so you gain nothing by helping them. Kill him after you get the armour though. ;)

Alright, thanks. I'll try that:)
Though it's a little bit to late to not side with Madanach:P

Hopefully it works for you too.

I'm starting again from scratch when the patch arrives, and unless it's fixed, I won't be rescuing them! ;)

I believe it's the case that if you use console commands you cannot get any achievements with any saves made after you've used it. Is this still correct?

Scroll down to the "Console = cheater" section.

I don't think that's the case. I keep getting achievements even though I've been using console commands throughout my playthrough - even using the setstage command to get rid of a quest item that was stuck in my inventory.

I had the same happen to me. What fixed it for me is that I found a house with two people in it in Markarth, a man and a woman. I killed them and it said there were no more witnesses and my bounty was removed.
