can PCSteam users get confirmation on 12:01am unlock?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 6:02 am

i have had many issues with steam and midnight launches in the past. i have seen a few questions that danced around my question, but i would love to know ahead of time if the PC users can play their games at midnight regardless of timezone?

for example- i grabbed the PC version of fallout: new vegas and it had a 12am PST unlock time, which meant i had to wait until 3am EST to play. and i just noticed when Lord of the Rings: War in the North launched, it didn't unlock until 1pm the day of release and not at midnight.

my point is i'm going to a midnight launch because i'm stoked to play this game tomorrow night and as early as possible cause may OCD is in control and i'm not.

if the PC version doesn't unlock until some weird arbitrary time I may grab the 360 version instead. it would be a waste to grab the PC version at midnight only to come home and have to wait until the next day to play.

as a side note, steam DOES say that Skyrim will unlock in 1 day and 0 hours from now, and right now for me its 12:52am EST. so that looks promising.

anyways, thanks for any info, can't wait to hunt some dragons!!!

i understand what it says, and i posted that above, so my last question would be, is that availability 100% accurate, does steam, ever post the wrong time and it changes at the last min?

because so far, the 2 or 3 times i have followed how a game launched on steam that time WAS 100% accurate, and if so, of course i would be happy to know that.

thanks guys.

PS/EDIT- sorry forgot to post i am east coast USA. /// EST.

I see you havent been around for other "midnight" steam releases, where they simply PUSH back the unlock a good 6-8-10 hours 1 minute before midnight. Fun times!

Of all the many many games for me the unlock has been accurate. Unless for some reason steam or the publisher has to push it back, even then the timer will be accurate (more time may be added)

Just note, after the timer counts down you may need to exit and reopen steam in order to decrypt your preload.

It's no use posting the Steam link, it will read differently for each time zone, as an example I click your link and got "This game will unlock in approximately 18 hours"

Ok okay, makes sense sort of.

I don't get the how many hours bit like others get and it does unlock at 11 PM on the 10th at my time zone ... but the stores won't release it till an hour after that anyway.

That is the point, depending on where you live it will unlock at a different time. IT does not unlock for everyone in the world at the same time (depends on your timezone :)

yes, exactly what i mean. when i was foaming at the mouth for the new vegas launch and waiting to play a game i bought at 12am, i was complaining in the forums with others and everyone there was saying how they have had issues with other launches, thats what i'm afraid of...

i would almost rather buy a possibly inferior 360 version, so i can play tomorrow night, and then buy the PC version a week or so later...

Yes I know!, that's what I've been trying to explain to others, it's unlocked after midnight for EACH time zone

There's going to be a lot of angry people over the next 24 hour period because they've not taken note of relevant information.
