Can't poison one-handed weapons?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 4:17 am

I'm not sure if this goes here or in technical issues. I did search and nobody's asked about it yet.

I can only poison two-handed weapons. If I have a one-handed weapon and a spell, and click on a poison, it brings up a window saying I need to equip a weapon before I can poison it.

I'm on PC so I already have to guess at what any of the buttons to do anything in the menus are meant to be, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't see that window at all if I weren't already activating the poison correctly. Plus it works fine with bows, which are two-handed. Is this a bug, or is there just an even more complicated process of things I need to click in order to poison a weapon sometimes?

I got the same issue.

Something that comes to mind though, is the weapon in your right hand? Mine is in my left.

Yeah, it's in my left. Is that it then? Because to change it, I'd either have to right-click to do my default attack (contradicting over half my life of computer use), or have right-click be left hand and left-click be right hand (contradicting sense).

have you tried without a spell equipped? If it has to do with left handing things, you could put in the right and then change over

If must be in your "main hand" which is your right hand. Try equipping the spell in your left hand and your weapon in your right.

Silly that a game with ambidextria built in as a core mechanic, that they would have a "main hand". What they should have done is had a pop-up that asks you which hand/weapon you want to poison.

Baleroc, look at what you quoted. Right-handed characters really do not make sense with a mouse. But thanks for confirming the problem.

Thank you for the suggestion, RFG. I now think it's just broken, but I'll try with nothing at all in my other hand later, just in case. But poisoning only lasts one blow, so unequipping my spell or switching my weapon around constantly isn't much of a solution, since I'd be doing it repeatedly within what should only be several seconds of combat.

The pop-up asking which hand would be great. But if you've only got one weapon, it should default to that regardless of the hand.

Of course, they wouldn't have noticed this, since on console controls it's perfectly natural to play right-handed. :\
